Admittedly I don't know what alternatives there are for other genres if one wants to get away from RIAA labels, but for classical music there is Naxos. Virtually every single one of their releases come out at a $8 MSRP. Go out and buy an armful of these recordings and never look back.

1GHz athlon can easily do this, 720x480 video divx5 encoding at 10000 kbps in real time. Perhaps it's time to updage your sig, since my machine isn't exactly the bleeding edge these days.
Unreal runs fine under Wine with Glide and software rendering. Multiplayer works well (okay, not with Wine-990314, due to a winsock implementation bug, but previous and later releases will be fine). The only thing that isn't working perfectly is sound. It plays, but not well.

RMS on APSL

Lately, any comment which criticizes either Slashdot or it's users has become much more likely to be swiftly downgraded into the land of negative numbers.
Moderators: why did the above comment get a -1? Was it inflammatory or obscene? I guess it must have been, since the combined wisdom of no less than two moderators has deemed it unacceptable.
A reasonable option in user preferences would be "ignore ratings from moderator X", along with moderation info for each upgraded or downgraded comment (that is, the ability to see which moderator changed any given comment's rating).
So your rage comes from the song? Can anyone be THAT unstable as to object so strongly to what was likely nothing more than a joke? Perhaps if you could explain in greater detail why RMS should not get the respect that, as far as I can tell, he has earned, then someone may listen to you.
I can almost certainly say that RMS had a hand in the development of ALL those packages because their authors probably used gdb and emacs as a development environment. Not to mention that the license under which those software have been released (and which has allowed you to use them with such freedom) was RMS's idea.
Has your own work even had a fraction of the impact of RMS's on the lives of so many people?
The 3dfx Voodoo2 FAQ states that current estimates consider 80 million polygons per second to be the point at which fully realistic 3D worlds are possible. Then with the Playstation2 spec of 20 million polygons per second, in combination with Moore's law, I suppose this goal would be reached in 3 years.
Or one could just put about 30 Voodoo2s into an SLI-like configuration and have it today. I suppose you'd need a Beowolf for the vertex processing though (ducks for cover).
Anyone know the Realplayer workaround under 2.2.x?

This was the funniest thing I've read in a long, long time. Thanks for cheering me up!

I was not aware that IE had won. Guess I'll have to move to it. Can you post the link for the Linux binaries? glibc-2.1 would be best. Thanks.
Then in my ~/.tin/newsrctable is the line
Now I start tin with 'tin -g 3dfx', and away we go.

The reference to Wing Commander is due to a rumor cirulating that the second Phantom Menace trailer will be attached to it.

Yes, it works as of Wine-990226. There is even an HOWTO, but it doesn't really require any special magic.
