Of course Transmeta is a MS in disguise. The name of the game is no longer "Let's make money to feed our families".. the name of the game is "Let's dominate the market because it's fun and it's the only true challenge in the business world."
That's why MS is so big. As a parallel example, look at SimCity.. what's the point of that game? to build a huge ass sprawling city.. and why? because it's fun. sure.. a smaller city might keep you interested for a while.. fix sewage and electrical problems, rebuild after those nasty disasters (though i know you all turn those off).. but no.. you end up adding to the city until there's no more available space and then get bored and pissed and start over.. and why? because it's more fun that way and sticking within the confines of your intial little area gets boring pretty quickly.
Do you think MSFT or Gates need the money? Hell no.. this is a game to them, and it's a fun one at that.
Don't get me wrong..I've had my heart torn out and handed to me on a platter more than once (and once is enough).. but upon reflection, i see that it's usually my fault (i.e. i let myself get too close to a girl who wasn't as close to me, etc.).. maybe you should be looking at a different type of girl.. or stop clinging to the "she needs to like me for me" approach..that will burn you in more ways than one. you have to give her what she wants, if you're really interested in having a relationship with her.
Do we really believe that the elite of the world will give up their power to a bunch of hackers/geeks like us?
I don't think so.
Most likely, in an effort to maintain their status, they will become geeks (or try like hell, or fake it, or something) as well as the philanderers, cutthroats, etc. that they already are. That is, if that's what it takes to continue their 'ascent to power'.
Either that or they'll make rules to keep the poor poor -- Just look at the stockmarket.. who gets richer? The rich. Who stays poor (or gets poorer)? The poor. The RedHat IPO is at the heart of the matter -- to take advantage of the enormous profit potential, you must either A) have a lot of money, B) have a lot of money, or C) be willing to lie your ass off and pretend like you have a lot of money. Hmm. Where does that leave most of us? Money obviously begets money, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's someone somewhere sitting and snickering because (s)he knows that most people don't have the opportunities to make money that they do, and that the profit is all theirs. How many of us have the US$5Mil that it takes to open an account with Goldman-Sachs? I'd be willing to wager that not many of us do.
.. And if we do make it to to the top ? Well, as someone mentioned before.. Power Corrupts. I know I'll have no problem living the good life..and I'll probably want to stay there. As Frank Herbert put it: 'Absolute Power corrupts Absolutely'..
The cycle will perpetuate itself, ad infinitum, IMO.
Whether or not he can spell has no bearing on his point.
Quit being a whiner and grow up.

Sounds like you're making a mistake somewhere.

Amen, brotherman.
Exactly. Couldn't have said it better myself.
:)
Too bad I can't moderate you up
No, you need to start thinking for yourself instead of believing that there's no such thing as an entity that has an ulterior motive.
Just because they say they're your friend, doesn't mean that they actually are.
