Interesting thought. If new forests are storing carbon in their mass then why not bury the paper we use instead of recycling it and keep harvesting the carbon (wood) from continually planted trees? I guess the carbon gets released again anyway when the paper biodegrades in the landfills. If only we could figure out a way to store paper (plant matter) where it doesn't release it's carbon (e.g. coal), we could recapture it. Basic carbon cycle.
I don't upgrade single drives at a time. I have dedicated file servers to put the majority of my data on. The first was 8x20GB drives, then 8x120GB drives and my current is 8x250GB drives. I rebuild when I run out of space and can afford the upgrade. When I do, I take down the old system and have several drives to throw around in spare systems and friends computers. This happens every few years I guess. The file servers are all RAID 5 and I upgraded to a gigabit network with the last one so it's pretty speedy and redundant. It's also handy when you have data to share between several computers and several users.
Though, I believe my next system will simply be a MacPro with 3x750GB drives. I'm getting to the point where I wish the majority of my data was on my computer locally so I don't have to worry about permissions and resource forks. I'm also getting tired of the whole second-computer-for-data thing. I'm ready to consolidate. I guess I'll finally have to do decent backups though in case a drive goes down.
I attend the same University as Virgil and this really puts our security and the effects of the DMCA into perspective. You don't think that this applies directly to you till you hear that it happened to a classmate who was trying to prove the system has a major flaw. I bet now that they issued the c&d, our school won't update this system for another 2-3 years. I think I'll empty my debit account early next semester.
And when it arrives, it will shake the universe!
Use OSX if you like to flash $100 bills when you pay for your beer
That'll tend to get you laid more often also.
They have a monopoly...on excellence. :P

I almost posted that analagy but someone would've brought up the differences in the serial/parallel interface. Exactly what I was thinking though.
USB 2.0 is slower than Firewire 400 in practice and uses more CPU. That 480Mbit/s is theoretical.

Awsome Comedy/Action flick. I was supprised to see this mentioned so soon. Good taste evidently. :)
"Tonight only, at the Pit...Everyone Gets Laid!"
Classic college movie. Comedy Central used to play it back in the day. Just don't see it around much.
