Agreed, water based stuff, especially if its got CO2 or alcohol in it, is less likely to incubate bugs than something with food or milk in it.
I get the same funny looks from folk who think a layer of tanin in MY mug is a problem. I make sure I give THEM a clean, well rinsed vessel but it really bugs me when a well meaning person deprives me of my favourite mug or glass.
Strangely, some such folk don't have a problem preparing food for other people without washing their hands first, or letting cats wander all over the kitchen worktop licking plates.

Washing up liquid! Why do folk insist on leaving these chemicals on food utensils? Do we really have to beat sense into them or serve them food with large doses of added "lemon fresh -squeaky clean" before it penetrates their thick skulls?

Stay safe: Keep window lickers out of the kitchen!
Good point Matt. In fact I got a nice Haggis from a butcher in a small village in Berkshire. He imports them to order. Unfortunately I don't live near said butcher and will be surveying the area for good butchers.
A colleague, since retired, built an 8052 based PC. He pointed out it was more of an engineers CPU than the Z80. Z80's are still used in simple control apps of course.

Another contender is the Silva Navigator. This unit features GPS, barometer and electronic compass. Check the description and tech spec at http://www.gpsw.co.uk/details/prod171.html
Battery life with the suggested strategy is perfectly adequate for 2 weeks from to AA cells.
Note the low minimum operating temperatute.
Built in maps sound like a nice idea but some units have functions specific to certain areas only(North America) which you pay for. Some places you might visit may not be that well served by maps.
Personally I'd either go for this or one of the Magellan GPS receivers.
Yes, the ZX items were VERY closed source, though I once caught a glimpse of a servicing manual many years later. I did manage to figure out the keyboard matrix by experiment and used araldite to bond a much modified Cherry keyboard cct to the Spectrum case. It worked well apart from having to look at the old key mat and facia for the various command words. The tape I/O modulator packed up in the end.
Re Tandooring Haggis - I've been threatening to do this once I get my hands on a worthy haggis - they only seem to sell pig or vegi haggis in England WTF.
Couldn't come sooner!
I'm tired of those damn "don't I look wonderfull with my new outfit today" no-brain news presenters.
BBC News 24 interviewing an astronomer ref Beagle 2 introduced him as an ASTROLOGER! For F***s Sakes!!!
There we have it folks. Theres been a failure to communicate 'cause Beagle 2's birthsign coincides with Rus*el Gr*nts bad dose of piles!
Bring on the automatic presenters and lets dispense with those vain overpaid faggots.

My vote is for laptop. Its easier to lock away out of site and if theres a fire you can take it out of the propery quickly.
Cheers and seasons greetings.
As I recall, c. 1973 Suez was a problem. Since then
a number of oil fields have been torched and many countries are at the mercey of OPEC, Venezuala, middle east unrest and sabotage of pipelines etc.,
For freedom in troubled times, we could do with freedom from imported fossil fuels. Hydro, geothermal, wind, nuclear and other sources tend not to be portable but batteries and fuel cells certainly are.
Faced with the possibility of petroleum based fuel shortages - some of us have lived through similar already and seen corporations loose millions/$
I tend to think we should be open to new possibilities. Otherwise we may as well go back to the plough?
Cheers.

Wooha! Now watch you don't over do it folks!
The second hand keyboard exchange will never be the same....;-))
Apparantly noise is less of a problem with new PC's.
The team at WinRadio can no doubt advise. Incidentally, since the PC is demodulating and digitally processing the received signals, a faster processor is better.
Thanks to Hemos for the TenTec info.
Check out the following sites for info on PC controlled receivers that do not suffer from
internally generated noise. These guys have done a great job.

The g303i is the receiver to go for if you just want HF reception. Other units go to 4GHz! Some receivers are external and some internal ie they
mount in your PC!

You may recognise some of their kit from the Paris Safe House in The Bourne Identity.
Note the open software development unlike better known oriental brands.

The Ride of The Valkeries blasting out of a silent
combine harvester of doom with razor blade threshers
and a wax hopper of hydrofluouric acid.
That should take care of those queer aliens.
Wonder if we could use the chemical reaction to offset the power drain.
ZX97 - now thats a great idea! Hmm linux on a ZX81 clone...
There are lots of apps for a stand alone computer without tying up the main PC.
Haggis - excellent!
I'll still need to look around for good local butchers (recently moved to another area). there should be plenty of Venison and pheasant around here.
Cheers!

I might have to buy a ti81 just so I can mod it for the grin factor
Thanks
Has anybody overclocked a Z-80? My Sinclair ZX Spectrum ran hot at 4.7MHz

Thank's! I'll take the dog food. There are a choice of flavours and its more nourishing than you think.
A major concern about polititians is that they have short term aims, whereas most problems require long term strategies.
There are no guarantees. Caveat Emptor.
suppose I copyright my DNA (how do i do that?) and the copyright expires - could SCO threaten my life?
If I couldn't or wouldn't pay up - then what?
Er wait in 20 years - "who the hell is SCO?"
Having tried shoving one of those mutha's home in a camper i can really relate to the momentum involved man...
P.S. washing up liquid and suguar gets rid of the oil!
