1) NEVER give out your email address to someone you don't know. (This includes posting on forums and sites that "require" you to register with a valid email address.)
This is VERY true. I had an email on my own domain, and as i sometimes, quite stupidly I might add, used it for registering to stuff, I got more and more spam. What did I expect, right. Anyway, I removed that email and made a new, different one, several weeks ago. Absolutely no spam on that email.
These images are clear evidence that Mars is inhabited by crazy good for nothing ravers with a soft spot for ecstacy. Very interesting. I think it's a good idea to further explore this planet.
I wonder when they'll finally realize that you can't make a thinking machine. It doesn't have a a soul, a consiousness.
Define soul. What is that?
It just follows some programming. At the most basic level, it's just a binary program. It follows whatever instructions it was given.
At the most basic level, our brains are single neurons, which are molecules, which are atoms... etc. down to quarks or whatever is at the bottom. All we are, everything, is simple matter organized in an extremely complex way. Surely intelligence and consciousness can't be the result? There's nothing special about us, other than we are very complex structures of matter.
I honestly don't think we understand what makes a human consious or what makes someone be that person well enough to try to replicate it in software. You can make the logic more sophisticated, but I doubt we'll ever make them truly "think." And even if we did, how could we prove it? If you think about it, how can you prove anyone other than yourself is consious?
Here I have to agree with you somewhat. It IS a big problem to figure out when a structure of matter is intelligent or consciousness.
First of all, what is "real, true intelligence"? Does intelligence have to be human to be intelligence? I don't think so. I think it could come in different forms.
And you are right that a computer knows only on and off, but that is the most basic level. Does this mean intelligence is impossible to exist in a computer system?
Exactly. He also said it's weird that we shouldn't judge other on racial basis, since we can judge people on their friendliness, intelligence, etc. What he fails to understand is that race is not the same as the other things we sometimes judge people from. There are friendly and unfriendly people among all races, and stupid and smart people among all races. To judge on the basis of race would have interesting implications, since I am pretty sure he is white, and I am white, and I know a lot of white people that all are different. How can he expect me to judge all these people in the same way simply because all these people are white?
It's mindboggling indeed. I suspect that political views are, for some people, like religion. It requires them to throw overboard the ideals that made them turn to science (astronomy in this case) in the first place. It's weird. It's also weird to see him say, on his website, that he doesn't want hatemail... I guess hating is ok only sometimes.
How can this be so uninteresting? Finding life on other worlds, even in our own solar system, would be an extraordinary discovery. I suspect it would teach us quite a lot about the possible origins of life, where life can start, how it evolves... Maybe we will find something, maybe we wont. Either way we will learn a lot about our interplanetary space around us.
Why wouldn't the scientists and engineers use the SI system? I thought it was the scientific unit system already? And also, this joke isn't just 'old'. Archaeologists have found it side by side with cave paintings.
Actually I've never seen the Bush regime as very serious, rather it's amusing in a perverted kinda way. It's hard to explain... But I get a funny feeling about it. As if they are parodies on themselves, perhaps?
It's a good thing they asked them to stop. After all, if history has shown us one thing, it's that USA is the only country mature and civilized enough to possess nuclear weapons.
What most people don't know is that this portion of the universe that is unknown and missing, is actually growing, day by day. And once we can find it, that will be the day when the missing socks will turn up, as well as a lot of pennies and dimes, a few keys, and all those darn Lego pieces you were searching for all those years ago.

Can. Will. Am.
I, too, practice what I preach. Oh, and btw, I have nothing but good things to say about the stability of Win2K. But maybe you're using Win98?
I have registered the patent for "Any technological solution to anything. Ever." I expect to be really rich, really soon.
Yeah well but Perl is not really a language, now is it? A disorganized bunch of strange characters, sure...

sniffing is better than smoking, if you remember to remove the icecubes from the coke first
I don't care why he has to pay, I just think it's about bloody time that he does!
So how do you go about sending the first email to someone? By making an unsolicited phone call first? This doesn't sound very good.
The only nation that ever carried it out, too. Twice... (Yes, I was sarcastic; saying what I said, and to actually mean it, shouldn't be possible :-) )
The propaganda machines are up and running to prepare for another liberation. Tomorrows headlines: Canadian bacon is people!

Yes, the AC checkbox disappears sometimes.

The lower taxes, the better. No taxes would of course be the best then?
Would they do it, though? What a dilemma; Canada is too close to ignore, too white to invade.
U.S. Says Canada Cares Too Much About Liberties
Yeah, they should get with the program and be more like the Universal Liberator called USA!
