which even for me at home with five machines works out to be peanuts... the only way to be cheaper with ms-windows is to use pirated software...
hey, it's even cheaper for me this time... it's my brother's turn to order the boxed set... so we've got some 8 installs for the price of one boxed set... you'd think some of these people moaning about the price would club together to buy a boxed set between them...
"So now the project gets cancelled. The sad thing is that VA really needed this program to succeed. I suspect that the technology has been made a scapegoat for mismanagement (not that the technology was perfect). Well.. back to 1964."
So what was wrong with using VistA as a base to work on then??? If they were so forward in doing their patient management systems using FOSS, then they should have done their payroll system on something similar... and not only that, but investment in producing an open source payroll system would not be lost as other large governmental organisations etc. could have gained off it, as the base work would have already been done.
"Gates said: "I'd skip out on athletics and go down to this computer center. We were moving ahead very rapidly: Basic, FORTRAN, LISP, PDP-10 machine language, digging out the operating system listings from the trash and studying those.""
he's a fine one to talk... what about all those "alledged" Linux box buyers he claims (by proxy) are installing pirated copies of ms-windows over the top of Linux OEM pre-installs???
The planet where if you don't play ball with the big corporations, they'll up sticks and take their jobs elsewhere. It's disgracefull when corporations can hold whole countries in thrall by threatening to shut down a plant if they don't get preferential treatment. Microsoft have got Ireland by the balls now cos of their large plant there that they could take away if things don't go Microsoft's way in Europe. Several large motor companies have been doing similar things in England, threatening to shut factories down if they don't get large subsidies to keep those plants open in the face of cheaper labour offshore. The government effectively rolls over and does anything it can to keep those jobs there, cos if they don't, they'll lose that income tax and have to fork out wads in benefits to support those made unemployed.
I was in the process of pulling down via bittorrent all of the seasons of "Sex and the City", but decided to buy the whole lot on DVD after finding them on sale at a sensible price today... it's much nicer being able to play them on proper players and enjoy all the extras etc. plus the quality was far better.
Plus my daughter was also surprised cos I bought her Green Day's "American Idiot" album after having "previewed" it via usenet.
I tend to purchase a lot of the stuff I've downloaded, but only if it's actually good... otherwise, it just gets deleted after having viewed or listened to it once...
Basically, if they concentrate on quality at a fair price point, then I'll buy it. I hate buying stuff on hype and finding it's crap... I like to check it out for myself before committing.
no sorry, the "Three Second Rule" is where you've lucked out if you vacate your place in the queue or left your seat, whatever, for more than three seconds...
should survive incoming administrations... it shouldn't change it's political colours because the ruling clique has changed. It should be rather like our Civil Service, politically neutral. The spectacle of a large corporation holding out until a favourable regime change allowed their case to be dropped was rather sickening. There's a lot of other parts of your administration that should survive and remain politically neutral as well.
thankyou... I'm crying now. Here's a wee dram to Hans' memory. I think the rest of this evening is going to be difficult for lots of people. I lost my son 11 years ago. I hope they can get over things and come to terms with their loss. I thought I had, but little things keep calling him back.
this falls precisely into the Java trap. Please see RMS for details. This project while being "open source" requires a non-compatible runtime to be present.

and yet Blue Collar Man passed the job on to his friend??? I'd have put the word around for anyone I know not to touch that contract with a bargepole...
I pulled the 0.5 version from the other link. It compiled fine on Suse 9.1... which is nice as suse 9.1 has the proper version of realplayer installed seamlessly. Just a pity I didn't test the script first (lack of time!!! it was three minutes to go til the webcast...) as I haven't got the notlame ripping plugin and it bombed with an error at that point then promptly deleted the vsound.wav file I just spent 30 minutes capturing... Now I need an undelete command or else wait for Thursday's repeat. and make sure I comment out the rm command this time...:)
It was probably crap quality anyway as most of the time it was "buffering..." see my other post...
Although I have maintained vsound for nearly three years, I can no longer do so, nor can I continue to make it available from this web site.
I live in Australia which has a law (Digital Agenda Bill 2000) which is similar to the DCMA in the US in that it makes the distribution of a devices for circumventing copyright protection illegal. I have neither the time, money or inclination to make myself a possible target for such legal action by companies with endless legal and financial resources.
However, vsound is probaly available from other web sites. If you want a copy, you should search the web. Do not email me as I cannot and will not provide you with a copy.
Do you want to download one from www.macromedia.com?
And I get this crap following the download plugin link...
Shockwave Player Download Center

ATTENTION NETSCAPE 6 USERS:
Note: If you have Netscape 6.0, then please update to Netscape 6.1 before installing the Shockwave Player. To determine what version of Netscape you have, select the "About Communicator" option in your browser's Help Menu. Click here to update your browser to Netscape 6.1.
so what is so special about that page that it requires a plugin???
By the way, my browser is far more sophisticated than poxy old Netscape... why the heck can't they detect the correct browser anyway... it's NOT rocket science... ps It's Konqueror by the way, as came with Suse 9.1.

just ask the BBC about the problems they had with reading data from the disks they used for the Domesday project,... and they had access to the original programmers etc.

walking the fields around Lockerbie the morning after, marking where the dead bodies were, wasn't a picnic either...
What bloody idiots marked you insightful with ridiculous flamebait like that in your post???

wow... exactly like Linux is... until you've installed the w32 codecs for mplayer... thanks guys... everybody gets to be in the same boat :)

yes, but IE is "free" as well... if you don't have a price on the time you waste clearing up afterwards...

ah, but isn't the torrent file itself a derivative work being the output of a hashing function on the files themselves???
