It all depends on a persons religios point of view IMO.
If someone is atheistic/agnostic, then it's probably a given that there MUST be life out there because since evolution created us, it's bound to have done the same elsewhere...
To someone, like myself, with a religiosly driven point of view, my beliefs lead me to believe that there wouldn't be another form of life out there because God created the universe to do nothing but declare his glory. And if there was other life of any sort out there, then there was obviously a purpose behind its creation. Heck maybe even the same reason...
I'm not preaching here, but debating this topic among people who hold a lot of different beliefs...is kinda pointless. Frankly we have no evidence FOR it, but *scientifically* speaking we have no evidence AGAINST it either. So "it's anyones guess."
I'm so sick of seeing big corperations trying to push around the "little people." It's nice to see one bow out/lose a conflict such as this. Hopefully it's a trend that will continue.
then what is the big deal here? If this A) existed before the book, and B) copyrights dont have anything to do with domain names...how can anything be said about it anyway?
Yaknow, there are much better, and more intelligent, ways to express what you're feeling without being degrading. Don't start a flame war where one isn't deserved. And please don't call me kiddo.... You could be a lot younger than me, my friend.
Troll away...
you pay for red vs blue? i download it free... i dont get it. as far as paying for thigns in general, you're right. I just wouldn't, but that doesnt mean everyone wouldn't...obviously.
well...who pays the open source coders when they make a project? pretty much the only money coming in is from donations....and banner ads in the case of media
true...but blogger has been around for a long time. they were one of the first, and they were simply bought out by google while they already existed...
It's similar but has a pretty important difference.
Does anyone think they're going to have much luck with a program like this in a market that is as flooded as the blog market? There are so many options for blog creation out right now i have a feeling microsoft will be getting a run for it's "money" or worse with a step like this. I can't help but expect failure.
apparently you skipped over the part about the DMCA. EVEN IF A PERSON DOESNT "STEAL" A MOVIE WITH THE PROGRAM, THEY'RE IN VIOLATION OF THE DMCA JUST BY USING IT. you CANNOT sidestep the encryption that was put in place to protect the media from being copied. PERIOD... EVEN IF YOU ALREADY OWN THE MOVIE.
and trust me, your response show far greater understanding....laff. if it's so wishywashy, please point out the parts that aren't even remotely correct. simply using the program is a violation of the DMCA...producing the program was also a violation of the DMCA...
Any way you look at it, even if no one stole movies with it, it is illegal. and if someone steals a movie with it, they have that AND a DMCA violation.
says who. who's going to examine every ripped DVD and see if a person actually owns them. heck, police could go house to house in seach of illegal media like they do in germany, but i have a feeling people might have a problem with that... i guarantee you that the vast majority of users of this program don't use it legally....if there's a legal use for it anyway thanks to the DMCA...
but if you'd never heard the CD before, and there was no way you could get ahold of it without legally buying it, would you buy it to hear it? i think i might. Heck, i HAVE before...
easy, not everyone is using them to "back up their DVD" not to mention that by creating this program, 321 was in violation is in violation of the DMCA, and reguardless of how WE feel about it, they're breaking the law by doing it.
how many people do you think actually use that software for a legitimate purpose? not to mention just by using the software you violate the DMCA because you step around the encryption that is there, so even if you already own the DVD, copying it using this is illegal because it's in violation of the DMCA...
Yaknow, it really sucks that the movie industry has become what is has, or heck, that the media industry has, but there are laws and there are consequenses for breaking them.
If it were up to me i'd be all about open media, and i'm sure most of the people on here would be too, but infortunatley the people concerned only with making money do not hold to the same ideals that we do.
I guess it comes down to the same deal as the RIAA. I hate their guts, but when you consider what they're doing in suing a ton of people, they ARE right, legally speaking. People are stealing from their income, so they "legally" have the right to sue them.
The only problem is business ethics, but thats another story altogether.
I think this is possibly one of the smarted moves they could have ever made. The great part about this, is that now they can install wine on solaris and run solaris, linux and windows apps, and if they install the mono project, they will literally have all ends covered... Sounds like a win-win-win situation here. I know my boss for one will be thrilled
This is kinda like one of those really bad 80's B or C movies that just wouldnt end but you just had to watch it just to see how the bad guy gets it in the end. The funny thing is, we all know the ending. SCO ends up bankrupt and the laughing stocks of the business world, some of their exec's most likely end up behind bars or broke, and who knows what other horrors will befall this evil...
Well, seeing as you're talking about the people who attend this site, i'd say for the most part you'd be wrong, but there area always a few idiots who spoil it for the rest of us. If you could see my karma and see the mess that some of the more idiotic mods had made out of it, you'd understand. I have made countless perfectly on topic and good reponses and some flaming moron who doesnt get it comes in and mods me down because they have some mod points to waste... Anonymous Cowards? Sounds like those extend far beyond the label... kinda reminds you of the 419 scammers...
sounds like people DO need to make a trend out of it then.

lol good point. to googles credit, at least they didn't go ALL the way microsoft and try to buy out ALL the blog sites on the net...
Yaknow, there are much better, and more intelligent, ways to express what you're feeling without being degrading. Don't start a flame war where one isn't deserved. And please don't call me kiddo.... You could be a lot younger than me, my friend. Troll away...
touche`! you've got a point with the whole libelous thing. I have a few disputes, but i think i'd lose, so i'm gonna shut up. ;-P

on another note, i have NO problem with banner adds on these sites...and popups?...thats why i use opera...
I'm a firm believer in free media and such. i think reg-only media is a terrible idea and should never have evern started.
And i think making people pay for it is even worse... It's just a pain sometimes to have to register to see news and stuff.
Not to mention i'm kinda leary about it because usually they want an e-mail address or your address and theres no telling where all that ends up...
true...but blogger has been around for a long time. they were one of the first, and they were simply bought out by google while they already existed... It's similar but has a pretty important difference.
sounds to me like you need to read the DMCA...

while you may not LIKE it, it's still the truth

just buy a copy of the software before you cant anymore... I'm sure frys or best buy or something, heck, half.com would still have a couple copies...
