    yeah, although the geek in me wants to be ready for the stuff i'd regret not bringing, the marine in me knows that only boots would bring most of the stuff mentioned above.

    the only stuff i'd consider making a pack for would be medical supplies. if you guys want something that would take a little preparation- consider faking an injury and stock up on the vicodin, percocet, and (fill in the blank with your favorite thing that requires a prescription).

    thats the stuff that you might really need in a tight spot, and it will have a post-apocalypse market value no matter where you are...

    I used to work for Fox. All the major news networks care about it ratings because they determine the price of the commercials (which is thier largest revenue source. Stories like this are simply more attractive to cable viewers, so news broadcasters have to show them. They seem evil, yes... but it's more of a reflection of the average viewers demand...

    How about Wikipedia adding a reader-feedback system that encouraged people to rate how "volatile" or "contested" a subject was? For example, if you went to the definition of "steel" you might get a low "contested" score, because I can't imagine there would be a brawl around this definition. But if you went to "capitalism" you might find a high "contested" score, which would warn you of "spin." (from either side of the fight)

    I forwarded this ebay item to a news editor friend in Seattle- KIRO TV- and they plan on running this at least on thier web site, possibly on the evening news. funny stuff.
