  1. Good problem, bad solution. on Mark Cuban Calls on ISPs to Block P2P · · Score: 1

From what I gathered, he's basically saying that a commercial company shouldn't have to force their consumers to use up their own bandwidth to download that company's product. It's slowing down the consumer's connection so that the company can save a few bucks. I can't really gleam whether he's trying to include noncommercial or personal P2P use in there, as he only states commercial or business use, but I don't see him pushing it that far. It's a good idea, but blocking all P2P traffic isn't the right step.

Except that's not true for all schools or for all people. Just saying you won't hire someone from a particular institution based on nothing but that institution is naive and irresponsible. Some of the best game developers do not have the traditional secondary or graduate education. You simply ignoring them because of prejudice means it's possible (and indeed probable) that you lose someone who could have been a real asset for your company. Hire someone based on their portfolio, their resume, their technical interview and their coding style, not just from what school they come from.

The "big deal" is that San Andreas was given a M- Mature rating for all the "mature" content in the game, but it managed to just squeak by with that. Now that there's this in the game, the game has pushed well beyond into an AO - Adults Only game, and I don't believe there's been an AO game to date since the ESRB formed.

It's also a "big deal" because Rockstar lied about the content being in the game at all, so this it's possible this could lead to criminal charges brought forth against the company and it's execs.

It's a "big deal" for the same reason the Clinton scandal was a big deal. Not that Clinton had "sexual relations," but that he lied about it.

    Think before you speak, son.

They didn't take the "easy way out." Making a game of this calibre is not easy, let me tell you, so I fail to see why this small "feature" is indicative of laziness or inferiority when everything else in the game screams quality and effort. As it is, you obviously know little about how games (engines, in particular) actually function.

It's their game, and they've decided this is the way they want people to traverse through their world. They decided to set the pace of the game. So far, I haven't heard that many complaints from it, and the ones I have were relatively minor compared to your arrogant diatribe.

As a game programmer myself, you saying that they're not talented or that they're lazy makes me incredibly angry. You're picking out the one subjective flaw in the game and obnxiously and insultingly overreacting to it, ignoring the great work the game actually is composed of.

Can I get those last two things? I say Microsoft will be big enough one day to own a sizable chunk of something. So much so that it can finally become it's own country. It's already got a larger annual net profit than many countries' gross national product. That will be a scary day though, a la 1984. Go nuts.

No, I wouldn't go back to play my Microsoft X-Box simply because I don't have one, much less more than one which satsifies the requirement for the use of "Boxen." I like the X-Box for it's "other" uses rather than as a game machine. It just feels too . . . Microsofty to be that entertaining.

But, I think Bill Gates has a plan, and whether you like it or not, he's got the clout, the inginuity, the credibility(?), and the money that people will listen.

    Go nuts.
