...A heap buffer overflow exists in the AirPort wireless driver's handling of scan cache updates. An attacker in local proximity may be able to trigger the overflow by injecting a maliciously-crafted frame into the wireless network. This could lead to a system crash, privilege elevation, or arbitrary code execution with system privileges. Yeah so true, I once coded a small but complicate piece of code after a hefty evening (forgot about a deadline... long story) - worked perfect for about half a year, but then it needed to be extended and it was just easier for me to rewrite the whole thing - thoug the 'drunk' solution was quite clever, because it was a tad faster than the current one...
Why the hell is everyone assuming desktop == average user - not everyone who needs a desktop has no clue about how computers work... i use my current slack install as a desktop for ~2 years now (no reinstall, simple upgrading - currently sports kernel 2.6.7 + kde 3.3) and it's the snappiest desktop linux i ever experienced (in my opinion faster than gentoo, suse, fedora...)
Long time ago I bought a 20Gig Maxtor. Died within 6 Month. Waited around 3 month for replacement. Died within 2 weeks. Got another replacement disk (only 1 month this time). This one was already slightly damaged (paused for ~20 seconds from time to time, 'click'...). So no more Maxtor for me.

Last time I tried to upgrade my win98SE to winXP using windows update it just did not work ;-7
But I'm sure YOU can post some insightful instructions on how to do it...
maybe you should give freebsd a try - i didn't have any "rtfm" + /kickban with them yet
using a tab-size of >= 8 can help a lot...
Something like Ximians Red-Carpet for Windows would be a nice idea...
