  1. Do phone vendors actually pay money to Google? I was under the impression they don't.

I thought they did, but I'm not 100% sure now. I'll have to check.

  2. Right you have no evidence for your first claims so you're just going to double down and make some more.

Bro, we both know your point about self described socialist countries was entirely vapidand designed to lend weight to your argument from an incredibly flimsy base. Now if you want to argue against communism (something you seem to be confusing worth socialism which is much broader) you can do much better than am augment that falls flat on its face when you swap ideologies.

Regardless of whether you're correct, you made a very silly argument. Own it and move on.

Lol the list of self-declared socialist states.

That's like looking at the list of self-declared democracies and concluding that democracy doesn't work. Actual democracies don't need to self declare. Unlike, say, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

    You don't.

Very few white americans use a hyphenated nationality.

Not my impression. I fonud it really odd so it stuck out.

  13. What happens is that the acceptability of hyphenation is a function of complexion. No exaggeration, just look at the discussion here, right in this story. And quite pathetically, people don't even notice.

It's not a question of acceptability, I don't care. No one seems to care that people do it. It's just really strange. Firstly that people keep identifying with their ancestors country and second that people really really really seem to want Irish ancestry.

  14. All of those are free and come baked into Android.

If they're baked into android, they're not free. In order to have those apps, the phone vendor needs to pay google, which means you're paying as part of the phone you purchased.

  17. Facebook is nothing like the phone company. There are a ton of alternatives to Facebook (including no social media at all). Facebook is just an entertainment/data mining web site. It's not important.

The first part of what you say is true. But to deny it's important seems at odds with reality. It's one of the richest and most influential companies in the world right now. It's important alright, arguable for stupid reasons, but important nonetheless.

  18. On just about every thread about tech management people fall over themselves to declare how incompetent management is and how especially incompetent CxOs are. This must therefore extend to the board because they are the top management who appoint the CxOs.

It's funny suddenly seeing the comments do an about face and prophesying doom because this regulatio will ruin the meritocracy!

You do realize that they can chose to not live in California, no? California already drove out a handful of aerospace companies because of their stupid laws. They wanted to regulate "rocket fuel" as a toxic substance. I don't know if they realized this or not but "rocket fuel" is no different than jet fuel, fuel oil, gasoline, or any other hydrocarbon fuel.

There's loads of different kinds of rocket fuel. Kerosene is used for the first stage. Hydrazine and DNTO are both very nasty and popular in satellite rocket engines used for station keeping.

  20. Nearly every non-white person identifies as a hyphenated American.

Have you uh... been to America? Near enough everyone there who's white identifies as Irish or at a push Irish-American.

Suure thing son, all my great great gramps and grandmas on my fathers's side came from Germany and most of them on my mother's side came from England, but my mother's father's mother was half Irish so I'm an Irish American.

Seriously you guys have a weird national Ireland obsession. Still, having been to Ireland, it seems that tourism is doing a booming trade.

Really? I thought you only got access to the sevices if you pay (i.e. the vendor of your phone pays and inevitable passes on the cost to you). The software is simply an access mechanism to the services.

  23. I have to ask you guys a question: why do you think these companies are providing these "free" services? Are they altruistic?

What free services (we're talking about Android here). People pay actual money for android phones and to get the ones with all the google services the phone manufacturers have to pay google.

These are not free services. These are services customers are paying for when they buy the phones.
