  1. a little history of kamloops and where it has gone on A School District's Education in Free Software · · Score: 1

Although its been quite some time since I was a student at the local highschool, I am so glad they have come so far! around 20 years ago they started with a room of clone pc's hooked up via arcnet and to a single novell network. They let the students run it because no one in the district (at that time) supported it .... I was lucky enough to be one of those student.s It was great but a bit chaotic but I had a lot of fun using novell.. even playing around with lanassist (I loved rebooting peoples machines and gettin em in trouble;) ... and damn I loved snipes! I'm sure its got to hold some records for advanced multiplayer support... (at least I dont know of many games ahead of that that can be played specifically on a LAN) What sucked back then is if something broke you had to wait for a technician to come fix it and they were usually slow and didn't seem to know much ... I think they were more people used to fixing adding machines and photocopiers, and shook there head when It came to stone age networking ... since we only had to call them for hardware problems tho, it was fine (I could figure out anything else) .. My Last year tho at school they decided not to allow students "supervisor" access to the network and therefore I kinda decided to rebel a bit, and they really laxed in security, cause rather than using novells menu system they decided to use directaccess and they set the privelages as rw but no delete, but any idiot would realize you could just copy a file over the menu file and voilla it was down! .. heh The other funny thing is they bought cheap clones and because a few of them broke down they bitched at the supplier and some stupid person vowed never to use clone equipment ever again, and from then on had to buy IBM only ... now that rule is gone but they still buy SEANIX computers which IMO are the worst computers built in canada (unless things have changed drastically) ... I am glad to see tho that they have gone to linux, and I really think the thin approach is a great one!

  2. LCD's dont really cost more nowadays on Monitor Basics - LCD vs. CRT · · Score: 1

I used to be a LCD hater, because I didn't like the fragility, price, and color saturation...

But they really are on par now with CRTS and are almost cheaper... Example.. I can get the Diamond Pro 930SB Mitsubishi 19" which is only 18" viewable for $429.00 or the BenQ T903 19" flat panel (16MS response, 1280x1024, 450:1 contrast, Dual inputs) ... I went with the BenQ and am happy.. was going to get another dp930 but the desk space is nice....

I'd say its almost 1:1 if you are comparing high quality CRT vs LCD.

Hah, if you buy seagate you shouldn't be saying this then, but If you stick to other brands watch out.

  4. price of inkjet cartridges vs printer on North Carolina Fights Back Against Lexmark · · Score: 4, Insightful

This whole industry is based upon one thing. Everyone knows that these companys literally give you the printer only to make the money back on the refill cartridges. If they were to market the printers differntly, go back to making quality machines rather than things that print for a few years then die, and aren't fixing cause it's cheaper to replace we and the enviornment would win. We would get cheaper ink cartridges, and higher quality ink jet printers, thus lasting us a lot longer and saving our landfills and being green in the same process. If the companys were even smarter, they would have a exchange policy for old cartridges, or offer refill kits themselves.

  5. keyboards on Searching for Keyboards Loaded with Features? · · Score: 1

I have used many keyboards of my time, the PCjr chicklet keyboard, the mushy non springed Atari 1040STFM Keyboard, the IBM PS/2 keyboard (which I love the tactile feeling) and the keyboard I am tying on, a el-cheapo fujitsu... I figure why spend a fortune on a keyboard, as long as it feels good (which this keyboard I like the feel) .. sure it has lame windows keys, but in the end if you gum it up or spill your pop on it its only a throw away. I laff at people that still want to buy keyboard condoms when the price of the keyboard is cheaper than the condom. Has anyone seen what the condoms look like after a long life?? considering we use condoms once people try to make that piece of molded plastic work forever, I think they'd be better off buying a new keyboard a year rather than investing in the condom. As to all these stupid shortcut keys, they are gay, we have enuf shortcuts, let alone keys to do things... Its bad enuf that my laptop has these keys, and that my girlfriend insisted that I migrate her microsoft keyboard so she can hit the 'calculator' button when she wants the calculator up --- barf.. one key email --- barf.. I mean maybe if they produced something functional like a 'hold your hand feature (cause if you need the shortcut keys you might aswell have that feature aswell) ' then I might buy one with shortcut keys... Maybe the only features I consider useful is usb hubs, and cordless ones.

  6. The Diablo II Experience on New Diablo II Patch Finally Revealed · · Score: 1

After playing the game for over two years, making a lot of cash on eBay, and basically living off the proceeds, I can say one thing, never, never believe what blizzard says. Until 1.10 comes out nothing is final, nothing they have said could/will happen, its still up in smoke (prolly the illegal smoke aswell)... they keep bumping up the date, then taking back what they said, It was supposed to be out last october but was delayed, there seems to be something to always delay it. They also say they are working on deleting bugged/duped/hacked items and they never do, and people are still running around with these crazy insane items. They then post stuff on there site pertaining to the patch and then remove it hours later saying it was a mistake, so what do you believe, all I know is it will be out whenever blizzard gets off there ass and posts the patch.. And I heard that there shipment of monkeys (for the beta test) was delayed so who knows when it will be out.

  7. abuse of broadband a minority.... on How Broad is Broadband? · · Score: 1

Technically I figure anything that offers a advantage over the fastest dialup technologys this could be classifided as broadband. I wish people would go after all the companys that advertise unlimited access that dont really mean it... How many say its unlimited then you end up with *'s describing factors that still 'limit' your bandwith in one way or another.

  8. Ohh Brother on Are Printers What They Used To Be? · · Score: 1

No comment necessary, thats what my friend would say when someone bought a brother. Sure these laser printers are getting worse, but brother seems (is) to be the worst of the worst. Nothing but crapola... Not to say that the lower end lexmark and hp's are anything to write a book about or any better, but you really get what you pay for, its no Optra R or LJ 4 quality. Dont know about the absoulte latest HP and Lexmark Printers, but I know around five years ago if you spent the money and went with ones with a high duty cycle (which unfortunatly I installed a HP copier/laser/fax/all in one jobbie today and there was none of this information provided -- jee wonder why!!) you were guaranteed a printer that was bulletproof... Still considering the cost per page, speed, and overall reliability laser is definatly the choice still over inkjets .. just dont plug them into your standard UPS and you'll be happy!
