for the most part this is useless, hardware, why not buy a dell, with twice the processing power for 499, keep the ms windows xp disk, in cas eyou change your mind, and install whichever flavor of linux you want and have a pc that is much quicker, (hardware not os)
now if dell sold the same hardware subtracting the cost of windows, then wed all be happier more productive and reliable
they sued you for experimenting and testing their claims? ie the virii statement. i cant imagine how this is any different than test environments in larg ecorporations before a deployment or rollout.. did you perhaps send them bill, demanding it be paid or you will reveal their mis statment of facts or perhaps, say you found a way around their security pay you to keep silent or ruin toir prifit model like what happened with google perhaps.. im curious to hear more about how this was taken as extortion it doesnt seem to fit with the words definition.
i have yet to find an advantage to this that isnt covered in real time, messaging such as aim icq, jabber etc. however, the social networking aspect to these is inherently different as is the medium. the ability to navigate through a friends profiles etc, and meet their friends and their friend etc is unique. However, what are the primary differences between friendster, orkut my wallop etc? i have already seen php apps that let people create real maps of connections between the groups. having too much freetime on my hand my friend and i built one and are currently experimenting with it, and one of the most immediate observation is i stumbled across is that everyone links back to me well, cos i built it and invited a few friends. i understand the ability to advertise, as per a very controlled db etc. but fail to see the real shift in communication that is apparently occurring.
i believe the anger here is entirely unrequited. i have been findnig it increasingly difficult to find freeware and no nag ware as of late, and feel it was a springboard into a quality discussion of coding ethicism.
this being said often the quality of these freewares is quite limited.
ie gimp is no subsitute for photoshop.

is it just me or did the user ask about pc or linux applications? perhaps people should read a post before they reply. try the demo of roxio, if your looking to go on the cheap youll have to forgo a lot of the nice high end perks, of professional systems. and i fail to see how the buy a mac so you can get idvd installed makes sense.
