  1. Re:Hacking the real issue? on New Xbox Live Security Update Bans Cheaters · · Score: 1

Exactly. They are just using cheaters as the scapegoat.

There's nothing wrong with a company, even Microsoft, to want to turn up a profit on a product. This is there little way of helping keep the profit margins on the Xbox in the black, or away from deep red.

Just another reason not to mod my Xbox...

  2. CISCO Class... on Peter Packet The Cisco Security Game · · Score: 2, Funny

My CISCO class is often reprimanded for playing this game when we're supposed to be reading the boring modules. When we first discovered it, our teacher couldn't believe that it was on the acually CISCO website. The sad thing is, that game does a better job of explaining certain things than the modules do. Those things tell you what you need and only what you need.... Now, if they would only put Quake 3 up on their site, it would make it much easier for us to play in class, although, that doesn't stop us from doing it already. I think the sound of someone being fragged by the railgun is a lot more likely to be heard than seeing one of us actually doing what we're supposed to be...

Finally an application for nanotechnology that's getting some attention that doesn't involve little machines crawling around my brain and floating through my blood stream.

  5. By clicking OK... on Spyware Fines OKed By House · · Score: 5, Insightful

Spyware isn't as secretive as they seem to think it was. Much of it is installed with full knowledge of it's existance, but many people ignore the functions of what they download. I really doubt this will do anything at all because people will keep downloading things like WeatherBug, and think that all it's doing is reporting the weather...

  6. Of course... on Missed Opportunities in U.S. v. Microsoft · · Score: 1

Chin's article raises some new points about the Microsoft case that don't seem to have been considered by any of the parties, courts or commentators during the trial, such as the fact that the Windows and Internet Explorer software products actually consist of legal rights and technological capabilities, not lines of code.

So you're saying, I'm running a computer on an operating system that is only legal ideas and technological capabilities, not actual code? Wow... Things sure have changed since last I checked!

  7. Innovation that I didn't see coming. on Canon's new 16.7MP Digital SLR, with WiFi · · Score: 2, Insightful

Usually when something new comes to gadgets, you almost know it was going to happen long before it does, but this time, I was actually suprised and intrigued. This is something I never thought could use wireless networking, but now that it's been done, it seems like something that should have been done long ago.

  8. Re:Angry mob on Persuading A City To Go Wireless? · · Score: 1

Meh. It's atleast something to try. Besides, if you show that there's a substantial chance what's good for the people is also good for business, they might be interested. When dollar signs start showing up, people pay more attention.

  9. Angry mob on Persuading A City To Go Wireless? · · Score: 4, Interesting

You could try the good ol' angry mob o' citizens :) Some other, less angry methods include: - A petition. Get enough people to sign a petition (get some tourists too) and someone's bound to consider it. - Resarch. Conduct your own research/study (or hire a research/studies firm) on the desirabiliy and benefits of wireless access points through out the city. Be sure to include cheap methods. - Set up a small wireless network at a local park to demonstrate to the city that people want it.

  10. Re:Hard drive? on Will Xbox2 Be Backward Compatible? · · Score: 4, Insightful

Not necesarily. They could just make the games think there is a hard drive and save to the memory cards, or simply have a seperate cache. There are lots of options others than putting a hard drive in it.

  11. Tough to stay with XP on Simplifying Linux Driver Installation · · Score: 5, Insightful

If getting drivers becomes that easy, I'll be considering atleast dual-booting. Drivers have always been something that have kept me away from Linux, but if they're as easy to find as plugging in a device, I'll switch in no time. Now, if only those manufacturers would put out some decent quality drivers, I wouldn't have much reason to stay on Windows.
