    CAPTCHA requres you to know what it says in the first place. You typed in Mary Jones, but that's not what my Chinese transcriber/OCR think it says. You could keep a database of failed CAPTCHAs and accept them as more people repeat, but then the bad guys will use the same bad entry over and over.

    It's about paying $2 for a ring-tone I don't even get to preview. It's about not paying 411 $2.50 to tell me a number each time I need it, because it's not in my redial history. It's about $.002/minute VoIP over WiFi/WiMax. It's about not viewing sites that are not "news" or "sports" but 1/2 sentence snippets you have to pay above your data plan. Do you really care about what "interface" the rapist uses?

    Quickbook's is one of the worst written programs out there.
    It's based of IE 5.5, and is made of swiss cheese.
    It requires administive privledges (or local standard user) to check a balance.
    The database is propritary, and very easy to corrupt.
    It's reporting functions are pathetic at best.
    The $3000 "Enterprise Edition" won't work off a DFS share.
    You need to buy a new payroll file every year, or a yearly version.

    Hell, Microsoft is going to include it's clone of QB in Office for Small Business, and they're more open then Intuit.

    If you don't believe that they are allowed to change their game then say so. If you believe that they are then sometimes those changes are going to affect players that they don't even know about.

    How about this:
    I own a smoothie stand. I offer a "discount club" with a membership fee of $60. You purchase a membership and take advantage of the savings.. One day I expand to nuts, which you have an allergy to. I plan to use nuts in my mixer.

    1.) Because I cannot reliablily sell you drinks that you won't die from, have I materilly changed my product, and breeched my contract?
    2.) If I have no legal obligation, would it be good PR for me to work out a solution or give you your $60?

    And I don't understand why he's calling him a plaintiff, as no one is being sued.

    That said, there is public policy related to accomodations, one example is the ADA.
    Society must make an effort to be inclusive, and there has to be decision on whether the accomodation requires to many resources.

    Because a patch caused this, I would imagine it would be a minor thing to fix.
    Be it goodwill, karma, or a legal obligation because the patch is "defective", programs should be flexible to accept any input. (Is not STDIN the unix way?)

    I define a man/woman on what they can do. It is the right thing to do.

    There are the same people who have to accept:
    - they loose their job because they're in pain?
    - they're unable to travel, to see friends/family.

    If Richard Stallman was to get arthritis/RSD, would he no longer be a programmer?
    If an IT person could not touch a computer, can he no longer manage?

    The thing is that I have a gamer friend who fell down a flight of stairs. Games are the only thing that distracts from the pain. What's the difference between porting WoW to linux, and adding a custom interface for people with limited mobility? We are all one accident away from loosing our livelyhood, our gaming, our collegues, and our health. One shitty game of Nethack doesn't replace that. Were something to happen to you, I think you'd see things differently.

    Society has no obligation to people when a profit is unable to be made?
    Is this the same slashdot that panders to the 1% who likes Linux?

    Of course if you were blinded, or lost your arm, or can only sit for 3 hours a day, this product isn't for you. The mantra of the hacker to be certain.
    Better yet, fuck the WASD key people, I like my arrow keys and that's how I'm programming it.

    We should make a reasonable effort to help others. If that mean's a new preferance, do it. If that means a fork of the universe because the new feature requires typing OMFWTFBBQ, consider it.

    When a freak accident occurs, and you face being in pain and incapacitated for life, that doesn't make you worthless.

    This is where platform diversity comes into play. Any sane OS like MacOS, Linux, and BSD should never disclose your information without your pemission, period.

    And as for Big Brother taking over the internet, there should be a way to firewall it.

    Unfortunatly, the majority of times, these are nothing more than a footnote in an proxy, followed by a paragraph by the board recommending against it, claiming they are doing all they can, and the resolution cripple the businnes.

    The only people who *really* have a say are pensions and mutial fund companies, and they don't want to shake the boat w/ other's money.

    Most people trust others to manage their investments, and only direct owners can vote. That's why they almost always lose.

    They gave it the stupid name for it's free SQL, MSDE, or Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine. It has no UI, everything is done by vendor tools and CLI.

The spokesman added that BART is preparing to unveil its own free, downloadable iPod map on its website. So they don't want wrong info, and they will provide their own info for FREE soon. They need to protect their trademark for it to be valid. Why is this a problem? It does not "search for a station". It is a resized JPG. NeXT thing you know Apple will go after him for a "Ipod map"

    I have a luddite friend (1st grade teacher) who boasted she didn't have a CD player, and she didn't have room for a laptop. Rabbit ears were her adjusted, Lou Reed played on a record, and she once took weeks finding just the right cord for her phone.

    She'll call your laptop quaint and hi-speed a luxury as she pays Ma Bell line-insurance on behalf of her landlord. Silly VOIP.

    If you found my responce offensive, I apologize.

    It's simply was until I noticed the bars on the windows and security at the entrance, did I want to cut class. I was treated as a criminal, thus I became a criminal.

    Today, our schools are told to invade, invade, invade. The institution believes that the majority of students will become felons, or drug users, therefore they must use the same intervention methods.

    Rights only exist if they can be defended. We must denounce infringements, even if they may be premature, else we chance forfeiting them.

    Were we to use a biological clock, we'd be adults at 12-14, but an artifical threshold was placed at 18.

    I have no doubt that you must have questioned your elders, or established your identity before 18. My qualm is with the institution that produces us like cogs.

    If there is anything Life is, it's a transition. To be alive, on must have the right HOLD person and property, stand on a stage and speak your beliefs.

    If we think a child can't tell right from wrong, or his faith, can nurture his own talent, we are mere tyrants.

    Denying unalienable rights from children will make adult monsters, who are used to their inflexible cage.
