It would seem like an amusing moment to prove the point by offer a slightly obscured link to goatse... but I can't bring myself to check if it still exists... anyone brave around?!

  4. Zuse just beat Tommy Flowers? on Happy Birthday, Von Neumann (And Linus!) · · Score: 3, Interesting

Tommy Flowers who in 1943 built the Colossus machine, which as well as being quick was, more importantly programmable and so was the precursor to the modern computer. Oh, and it also helped crack Germany's WWII codes.

It was destroyed, as were the blueprints, at the end of the war for secrecy/security reasons.

However, i would like to make a case that this was quite possibly the 'mother of all computers'.

  7. People are scared of linux because... on IBM Launches Linux Desktop in India · · Score: 4, Insightful

The reason people don't use Linux, IMO, is not because it is harder to use or less logical in its layout (obviously i'm talking just about using KDE or the like), it is mainly because people have been using Windows since they were this tall.

If people started on Linux then Windows would seem bizare and hard to use at first, just as Linux is percieved by the windows generation now adays.

  8. Surely the main benefit of these is... on Is There Room for an IM only Device ? · · Score: 5, Insightful

...the ability to let others use the computer whilst someone is IMing.
I know that when I go home for a weekend or something, the likelyhood of being able to check my email, the latest /. or the like is usually slim to none, due to my little sister spending copious amounts of time 'chatting' to her friends.
I think this sort of thing could come as a breath of fresh air for other members of the house hold
Also IMing age is usually self-concious age and so privacy hilst IMing is usually of the upmost importance (I know it is for my sister), thus the ability to do it from their bedrooms, for instance, would probably be very much appreciated.

    Just my thoughts on it,
