you are totally correct in saying what you did, but i think that the bottom line from people and the cause for concern is that the license is misleading. a possible fear from developers would be working very hard to make SO better, then Sun either not incorporating the changes into the product, or deciding to start charging for the product using the changes the developers made to further make Sun rich.

Which wouldnt hurt me, since iown lots of Sun stock... anyways people have a right to be scared of this, especially if you are a developer.

    just my 2 cents!

I guess i would tend to disagree with what you said to some extent. Though what you said is partially true, with M$ coming out with new versions of their software every two or three years may companies think that to stay ahead they have to "upgrade", well this is SO's chance. When the next round of "upgrades" is supposed to take place, (possibly with Office 2000) many companies may decide to try to save a few bucks and go with SO. This would be good, and i will be happy.

Then again they could take it and totally make it worse than it is. My point being that the possibilities are endless of what could happen, and to say that you would quit useing linux because a few script kiddies get their hands on it is absurd. That is basically 5 games that are of very good quality (well starcraft is only pretty good quality due to the fact that you have to run it with wine). I am glad to see Linux becoming more of a gameing platform, im sure it wont be long before someone makes a distro tuned for gameing. Now only if support for openGL was improved upon.

3). humans dont have any morals (especially Americans).

no matter how hard you try to stop them humans will continue to steal, now you may be able to put the axe down onto the necks of some of these big distributors, but i can tell you right now there is no way in hell that you will ever stop friends sharing info/software/mp3/vcd with friends, and let me tell you; everybody has about 3 barrels of friends.

so go ahead and stop the big distributors they are stupid for trying to put up such big sites anyways, but you will never stop the public from this theft with lawsuits. the issue is much deeper, and only education, understanding, and tolerance will bring the theft of intellectual property to a halt.

I think i have heard this one before like 100 times, why is everyone so scared with command line interfaces. Why can't there be a GUI and a CLI? You could hide it from the user maybe, but why kill it? CLI's are very powerful and i couldnt ever see myself using an OS without one. Reason being that with a CLI you dont need a customized "wizard" to guide you through setup, etc. Doesnt it seem pretty silly to have a different window pop up for every little task that you want to do in an OS? I think CLI's are the ultimate in customization for any OS, after all you are only limited by your own imagination with what you can do with it, you can combine commands, redirect output/input, pipe output/input. Lets see you do that with a GUI. I think it would get very messy. This guy should just stick to windoze from the sounds of it, or maybe better yet he should buy a calculator...
