  4. G5?!? on Apple to Announce the Power Mac G5 at WWDC? · · Score: 1

Apple will announce computers based on IBM's 64 bit PPC 970 processor in the upcomming WWDC and will market them as G5...Initial offerings of the Power Mac G5 are said to boast 1.4 to 1.8GHz, single core PPC 970 processors Isn't the whole "G" thing copyrighted by Motorola? Even if it's not, G5 is a lame and misleading name. Not only are G3s and G4s made by Motorola, they are 32-bit. Even if Apple somehow thought G5 would be a good idea, I don't think IBM would stand for it. Many people know Gx = Motorola = slow development. It seems like it'd be a better idea just to call it what it is, the PPC970, and calling the Power Macs, Power Mac 970.

  5. open source games are kind of like socialism on uDevGames Source Code Available · · Score: 2, Insightful

it's a nice idea, but doesn't really work out to well.

i've not been to impressed with many uDevGames. i think maffia is the only one, and that's just amusing. a lot of the rest (including that nanobot one) are okay at best. maybe i'm spoiled by consoles and commerical games, but the graphics on all of them are pretty lame. open source may be a great way to make everyday applications, but not really a good way to make a game, at least a commercial-quality game. the resources just aren't available. sure you can probably get enough people to actually write the game, but you people willing to dedicate countless hours designing the characters and the levels and such. and the motivation just isn't there when there's no money involved.
