I swear, if Apple introduces another iSomething product line, I'm gonna fucking kill them!R#@(% As someone already mentioned,$#%S they weren't even the first/only ones to start using iSomething, thankfully almost everybody else who tried it were smart enough to drop it after a few product releases. $#^)&@#$&(^#4BBBZZZZZZZ OH! Looks like the RDF was malfunctioning! You suck Cisco! If Apple wants to name their phone iPhone, you should bend over and let them! If the Cisco people only understood the hidden genius of this naming scheme, they'd hand over the rights voluntarily.
So, you don't actually have any references to back this up? If I were making the opposite point, everybody would be screaming how "most people here probably know" isn't good enough.
But why why WHY? This is basically what most people in the Office thread seemed to be bitching about, but it looks like most of them never tried the new system. "Whaaa it's now what I'm used to!!" they said, and so do you.
Maybe the old menu idea is broken, ever though of that? Or if it's not, it's simply not the best solution now that the average display resolution is so much higher. Sure, there are plenty of programs which try to come up with their own idiotic skinnable interface which are almost always completely unusable. Reminds me of certain WMP versions and some other software I'd rather not mention.
But if done right, like in the Office case IMO, it can can help the new users familiarize themselves with the software quickly, and increase efficiency of power users.
If the save as dialog is needed after saving the document once, you click the huge blinking Office button I already mentioned (it's right next to the floppy icon), there's large menu item "Save As". I'm not aware of any shortcuts for feature (like Ctrl+Shift+S in Photoshop) in Office 2007 or 2003.
Did the situation occur in a mental hospital, or were the users you're talking about just mildly retarded? There's a fucking floppy disk icon at the top of application, it will open the Save As dialog if it's the first time you're saving it, and Ctrl+S also works. The field below the filename clearly specifies what format the document will be saved, "Word Document (*.docx)" for the new format, and "Word 97-2003 (*.doc)" for the old one.
If it really took them half an hour to click the huge blinking Office button (IIRC the menu's even pulled down the first time you launch the app), there's something wrong with the HR, not the new Office.

The Man in the Low-High Byte Order - A detailed technical article discussing the differences of standard byte orders in different architectures, and the challenges it presents when communicating across such devices.
Solar Storm Lottery - Alarmist story about a possible solar storm which could endanger Earth.

Well, if Sylvester Stallone, of all people, managed to create an excellent conclusion after four increasingly lame sequels, I'm sure Steven Spielberg (yep, George "Jar-Jar" Lucas isn't directing this one) can do it too.
As the other poster said, you don't have to watch it if you don't want to. I still haven't seen the last two Star Wars movies, and not planning to do so.
Let me add these two games to the disappointing list:
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter Rainbow Six Vegas
Way to fuck up two excellent series, Ubi. If they just made another Raven Shield, we'd forget Lockdown as an unsuccessful experiment, but no, they had to make another crappy, linear, arcade shooter. Same basically applies to GRAW, to a slightly lesser extent.
I was actually surprised by the level of relationship most people have with cameras once I started paying attention. Even most of my friends, who aren't technically challenged, seem to have little understanding of the cameras or principles of photography. I don't consider myself a very good photographer and don't even use a DSLR, but this seems like basic stuff.
For example, one guy was using the built-in flash on an object waaay beyond the range, and then was surprised that the photo was waaay underexposed. Another one was trying to take a picture of the night city through the window, again with the flash. Yet another tried to convince me that pre-focusing on the spot I expected the subject to appear would result in more lag and blur, even though the camera obviously didn't have enough time to properly autofocus.
Some Verbatim DVD+Rs are manufactured by Taiyo Yuden. Strangely, the ones I used were the cheap-looking colored ones, but I've used several batches of those with excellent results. Speaking of Verbatim, some of their other discs are made by Mitsubishi, and those also very good, although I'm not sure how they'd work for PS2 piracy;)
So you want to subsidize transportation? So you want to subsidize schools? So you want to subsidize the Army? So you want to subsidize the elderly? So you want to subsidize Africa?
The $100 laptop doesn't cost $100. It costs $150 and that price, according to the article, doesn't include shipping. OLPC would be manufactured in China, while Intel plans to do it (at least the final stages) in Brazil. Think jobs & additional demand for the better education these computers would be providing.
I'm not making the final judgement yet, I haven't even seen the complete tech specs for it, or results of the trials.
>>I'd always said that the porn industry was fully capable of going both ways
>Must. Resist. Urge to comment.
At the same time, maybe even two of each!

>Linux is an OS.
No it's not. Linux is a kernel.
Fap@Home!
Try using her mouth.
To keep it a surprise, you could say it's for some other purpose.
So, you don't actually have any references to back this up? If I were making the opposite point, everybody would be screaming how "most people here probably know" isn't good enough.
Dude!
Not surprising considering that slashdot is slowly trying to AJAXify itself...
mine is also 1024x768, but my 2007 resolution will be to change my resolution to 2560x1600.
>No no no... this is very bad.

Now I can get the money back from the laptop purchase and keep using the the usual warezed copy...

Right, because that'll automatically mean that OO will be more popular...
"You can have this ice cream cone, or this pile of dog shit - both are different, but only one is free"
OK, I see where this thread is going.

It probably is... somebody get this guy a Hallmark card or something.
>My bad. I hear "Nazis" and for some reason I always think 1940s.
That's probably your country was a lagger and joined the fun after everyone's been at it for a few years.

Yeah, and I'm not ashamed of it! I like my discs like my women: white and... printable.

Tssss, quiet! You don't want them to think you're robosexual or anything.
No, no I don't.
