During my short guest-play I also managed to park beside a RED line for 5 minutes...a' 600 bucks... But I managed to flee the country before they nailed me, he he heee
1. Flexible screen (possibility to move the hinges? To remove the entire screen?) that permits use in an airplane
2. Batteries that last an oversea-flight WITH transit
3. Ergonomic keyboard
4. Send 10% of the profit to me
Oh, and 5. Disguise the thing so you don't have to take it apart at every single security-check
'Hence, I'm sitting at home on my laptop'...Fortunately we can do all the important things from home nowadays, like posting to/. and replying;)
I visited FSU once and let me confirm that it is no joke about the parking situation in Florida Universities! Once I was so desperate I drove over a lawn:) and then got busted by the 'FSU cops':(
The observation of decreasing ice-covered area does not mean that the ice *volume* has decreased. In fact, more ice-free areas *enhance* ice formation because there is more open sea that can freeze. The ice acts as an insulator that prevents new ice to form. The ice volume does not depend so much on ice-covered area, but more on the type of ice (if it has lots of ridges - that extends deep underneath the surface, or if it is a thin, even ice-cover). As yet there is no reliable way to obtain ice-type from satellite pictures. Also, we in Scandinavia are already freezing so we're totally *pro* global warming!
I admit that I quite often get into hot debates over the old 'Linux vs MS' subject. The thing that sets me off is, well, our sysadm's. We have two - both Linux/Unix fans. On the other hand, most of the users have MS. When we need help the reply is ALWAYS of the type 'What OS are you using? Oh MS, you should try Linux it is so great and free and if you had used it you would never bla bla bla (this is when I stop listening)'. It really pisses me off! I don't mind a bit what anybody else uses, but PLEASE let me use what I think works for me! And don't give me that stupid argument that it is EXPENSIVE with MS! The cost is soo infinetisimal when compared to my salary. Whenever I hear an anti-MS opinion I see our smug bald little rat of a sysadm (or his greasy toad of a collegue) in front of me and see red! And of course people notice that you are annoyed and get angry in turn, and then the war is started. Maybe someone else recognize this pattern, I don't know. The thing is, much of the problems we have is because they clearly don't know sufficiently about MS. But instead of looking into the problem they blame MS and go off whining how bad it is. AAAArg now I have even got upset arguing with MYSELF!
Actually, with the freedom of expression comes the obligation not to publish names of people without their consent. *I* think this is a brilliant plan, and it is shocking that nothing has been done until now. The proposal prevents publication of false rumors that may harm individuals - something that is unthinkable in any other type of publication medium (except the Weekly World News).
'Windows makes easy tasks easy, but anything reasonably complicated? Better get ready to shell out the bucks.'
Give me one single example of a PC application that is easier on Unix, and I will eat this mouse-mat.
'Most Windows users can't deal with even a minor computer problem - they don't learn how to use the machine, but "if you click here, here and here, this will happen". '
- What is the problem? I want my machine to do this and that, and when I click here and there it happens! Who cares if I understand the electric circuites inside the box? And why would I understand more using a more difficult OS?
'They don't get an extensible skillset they can adapt to new tasks, but have to be retrained every time a new Office revision comes out, because "I can't click in the same places now!" or "everything looks different! help!". '
I have *never* had any problems adapting to new versions, I have never heard of anyone who had. Incidentally, my estimate is that we spend about 300.000 $ on MS products. Seems a lot, but how much do we save because our time in front of the computer is productive?
but just can't resist. Two reasons for having MS or Apple in your company:
1. It's compatible with what everyone else is using
2. It's EASY TO USE
The fact that it costs money is not important. It is enough to spend two extra hours in front of the PC because I use Linux rather than MS, and the cost is paid. For poor students that do not have the money - that is an entirely different matter, please use the free software. But when our sysadm's propagate how good Linux is and how we should revert to the good side, I see red!! Are they afraid of losing their jobs when MS gets too easy to use?
I agree! You deserve to get paid. Moreover, I *want* to give you money so you can continue making nice music. I am sure everybody does.
But how to administrate it? I certainly do not want to feed more bucks to the record companies. Come to think of it: Internet has already booted them from their little leech-niche in the music evolutionary tree! I say: Release all your music free on the net, then tell people to send you money if they want to! Make more tours if you want more money! Refuse to be controlled by the evil record-empires!
Pathetically, this sounds like hippie slogans. Darn!
What exactly is the difference between the Aussie's crime and lending an (honestly purchased) record to a friend? Selling it second-hand? Taping the record before you sell it?
Clearly the artists must own the rights to their creations - but that does not guarantee they make money from it. When I buy a record I have bought the right to play it as often as I like, and for who I like. How could it be any other way?
They are really priceless!!

Just pull the network cable out, then lets see the hacker getting past THAT script!
It is very easy to enforce:
If I find my name published on a page, I sue them.

Me too! If *I* was a musician that is exactly how I would market myself!
Actually, you can. Provided he is 50 years dead (funnily enough, I thought Charlie Parker was still alive...scary)
