That doesn't sound all the humorous or proposterous; when my sister went to UCLA back in 1994 she had internet access through what was colloquaily referred to by fellow students (and computing staff) as "the ethernet".
As a UCB EECS graduate, I can truly appreciate FreeBSD.
As a hardware nerd, though, I was a little disappointed at the empirical results the OS turned in for my disk array (RAID5, 4x200GB, 16kB block size, 8:16:32:256K stripe size) - burst and sustained transfer is much faster under Windows. Have a look at the results: IDE Hardware Raid On FreeBSD
Why ban usage for the passenger as well? Rear-facing screens at eye level like DVD screens are far more distracting to other drivers and pose the true safety threat.
(0) Card with Bt8xx chipset
(1) If you're using windoze, load the open-source WDM drivers found on the Bt8xx WDM Video Aquisition Driver website (you can use these drivers with any Bt8xx based card). Most *nix distributions have built-in support for the chipset.
(2) Use another open-souce marvel, DScaler, for TV-viewing. They've added some really nice filters that increase the quality beyond what you typically find with the in-box software that comes with most cards.
(3) A nice Windoze-only solution is the AverTV card (comes with a remote)!
In California this legal issue is still grey area; while not guarenteed any privacy by using an automated toll transponder, the courts have yet to (conclusively) decide whether motorists should be offered privacy when choosing convinience.
Your notion of term limits is double-edged: term limits ended the career of Willy Brown, the most dominant (and arguably productive) politician in the history of the state. You are right, though, that term limits could force us to an appoximation of the original representative system our forefathers had in mind (e.g. representatives from all walks of life.)
The reality is Microsoft won. They put everyone else out of business, there is no competition, and there will be no penalities for their means and ways - no matter what Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly thinks! Best way to get ahead at this point is to learn the dynamics of monopoly capitalism...
1) Focus on Blade Servers using whatever proc (MIPS, Transmeta, Intel, Sparc - whatever sells)
2) Push Sun-rays for clients; handles everything 99% of people want to do on a computer - plus holds a Java card!!!!
3) Embrace open-source software! Acquire JBoss and push OpenOffice and MadHatter - many a burned customer is weary of De-win-tel; make a viable alternative!
4) Decide the fate of Sparc
When I met Bill Gates at an intern BBQ last summer (at his home in Seatle) I asked him about Mono: he described the project as 'flattering' and said that MS has no particular competetive interest in the project.
What this means is that the project is fairly safe; no manager will take the initiative to butt heads with Mono head-on (it's not major enough to devote resources to). There is always the possibility, though, that some little wiener in the dregs decides to alter a library here and there, making compatability for the next version of C# a little more difficult (this is more like an eventuality than anything else.)
From a competitive standpoint, though, MS has nothing to lose. The project lengthens the reach of MS technology, and encourages developers to stay 'locked-in' to the big profit-margin products, mainly the thousand-dollar+ development tools.
Honestly speaking, your county government is criminal; they probably haven't considered the 8lbs. of garbage that they produce per person, per day. How awful =(
Be sure to recycle your old discharged batteries (don't throw them away)!!! You can take them to your local Radio Shack or check your County Government's website for recycling info.
The best way to keep students from distracting each other is to post a copy of the notes online before the lecture - that way there's no typing or other sounds competing for the student's attention.

How disappointing.

Why can't I pay using a phone? Doubly convinient for vending machines, and makes my wallet slimmer!

Why not just:

Merge with IBM...
I posted this on slashdot previously, but...
