The plane was supposed to also do recon. You want to do image processing in a year as a side project as an undergrad on custom microcontrollers? You also want that microcontroller to coordinate communication between the plane and ground station? If it were just supposed to fly, they'd have engineered it appropriately.

    Give the kids some credit.

Didn't the fire occur because they overcharged their batteries in the room?

Anyway, they did build one, and congratulations to them. So did many others, in this student competition. The Washington Post wrote up a little article (PDF) (HTML), too.

Note that I link to the pdf hosted on msstate.edu because that's where I go to school. Our plane ran Slackware.

When you google for ways to fit a program in 512 bytes on the first sector of a floppy, and this is the first article that mentions the options for not using standard include files, etc., it becomes useful.

I wish I had a backup copy of my games. Ever since disk 1 of FF7 went out, life just hasn't seemed as lively.

Anyway, what you're saying works when we're talking about cancelling recess for a group of elementary kids. A small enough gruop with enough interest can police itself over these matters. But the entire UK policing itself over video game piracy? It's not going to happen, and the people who want to pirate games will still do so by getting mod-chips off the black market.

While this law will keep some people honest because it's too much trouble to get a chip, the only ones it's really going to hurt are the ones who want to obey the law and have a legitimate reason to mod their PS2. A small group of people, I'll admit, but their rights are as important as anyone else's.

Well, if it works much like any other numa system, you have a few options - send data back and forth like you suggested, duplicate computations, etc. Then again, the software that does load balancing may look at textures when parcelling out tasks.

In any case, they're only expecting a performance boost of about 50%, according to the update. Whatever solution they've come up with for such operations, we and they both know it's going to involve a less-than-optimal speedup.

I agree, but there is this too: he can't realistically talk about "broad hardware support" based on the lack of support for one piece of equipment.

I can agree that Linux still has work in front of it, but he's jumping to conclusions a bit.

Not everything has such a cost. Epiphany, for instance, makes for an extremely easy browsing experience that doesn't have the "everything including the kitchen sink" feel of Mozilla.

Arguably, this is a bad thing as it doesn't have some of the cool features of such browsers, but I for one appreciate having a choice. So would my mom, who simply wants to browse the internet.
