Difficult becuase the people against fusion (most likely for traditional power generation) simply have to spread FUD and the people start freaking out. Its like the Superconducting Super Collider; people threw some FUD out there claiming it would create a black hole, even though the physics clearly showed that was impossible, remember that? The fact is that people are going to be scared of it until its in production and delivering the power.
Don't look at me. I'm not telling the assholes to do this. I didn't even elect any of them. They've stopped looking at election results as as any kind of mandate or direction on policy long ago. Plus enacting laws to stop and search me for any reason, and jail me without any need to see a judge at all, for as long as they want? Sheeat, the constitution & bill of rights is just an annoying peice of paper to them now. They've all gone rogue as far as I'm concerned. And they have all the guns.
We read Candide. That's gotta be way more "pornographic" than Ender's Game.
Oh, that was burned in in the courtyard of the S. Carolina courthouse long ago. Lolita probably burned out the eyes of the state legislature there. Oh course ban all such books. We can't have blind bureaucrats running around bumping into people now, can we?
I take it 1st mendments rights were mentioned but quickly dismissed by the prosecutor as being simply a bump in the roadblock to justice in S. Carolina?
Probably. The Iranians will get upset. We'll probably be in a declared war with Iran before too long anyway. Look to S. Carolina to be the first to send their good 'ol boys over too.
The academic importance of any written work is obviously NOT on S. Carolina's agenda. They couldn't care less. These people need to be brought into the 21st century some how. They need to understand that censorship is not ok, that a little sexual reference is not going to kill precious Johnny and Susie, but good luck with that.
Welcome to S. Carolina. We admire men with guns yelling "Yee Haw" who shoot up the criminals, hostges, and bystanders in the name of JVSTICE, but pornography??? By god.. HANG 'EM HIGH!!! Yee Haw!! Give that kid a gun right there, he's my next deputy...
Yeah, I was just gonna say, seems like the average farmer, though working from "home", is getting plenty of excercise. Carpal tunnel from a plow? Could happen I suppose.
Its not the researchers blocking the access, its company (I'm assuming privately held, with stock holders) that are blocking the research. Don't get me wrong; I hate that orgs like this use public funds and then lock the results behind a paywall, it takes some bawls to be like that. But lets place the blame where it lies, eh? The poor researchers are standing up to these clowns. Support them!
Auto is not the only industry in U.S. that's unionized.
That's right, the steel industry was. Name a union that's flourishing; I'll do it for you, the UFW. Oh yeah, they don't have to compete for jobs over seas.
Your comparing apples and oranges; all the countries you mention are socialist countries, the US is not. Those countries have other financial issues caused by their welfare cradle-to-grave operations. But that's not the issue. The simple fact of the matter is the US auto industry has been brought down by the unions unwillingness to bring labor costs in line with the rest of the world. You're going to tell me that isn't actually the case? Then pointing to socialist countries that you claim work? I think Europe's current fincial state says otherwise. Your argument needs some tuning.
This. Few people can write comedy, but if you can pull it off it will be a coup for you and your department. Something that has a better chance of winning on the comedy front is if you can get a small group of your coworkers together to help you. Pithing ideas for a talk around while cracking jokes is how its done on tv sitcoms. It can really work.
Attila is right. The American steel industry has been decimated by a union that was completely unwilling to bend to market forces and compete with cheaper steel mills in Asia. "To save the village we had to destroy it."
And the Lord spake unto Pistole saying, 'Yea, a plenary indulgence shall you bestow, so as to greatly increase the coffers of the TSA, sword of the just, who are righteous in my eyes.'
And so the people paid the indulgence, and were blessed while traveling for the rest of their days.
Now go forth and sin no more, my travelling son.
...does not suddenly mean that we shouldn't care about what negative effects (if any) legalization...
Well, I'm having a problem with the effect the current legal status of substances and vice have on society right now. You mean legalization will make things worse? Oh my. We'd better clamp down even harder then.
I'm slightly peaved that NO ONE seems to believe that I am owed a cut of whatever ducats MY information brings in to the people that sell it. I assume that some sort of disclaimer with regard to my info is a standard part of all the the hundreds of EULAs I've had to agree to in my life. But it still seems reasonable to me that if people feel like they have a right to sell that information, which is meaningless without my existence, I have a right to a cut of the profits. Reasoned arguments against?
What they don't understand is that fission != fusion.

That is very cool. Thanks for that.
the US is selling things to countries that lessens the value of the things that Russia and China want to sell to different countries
You wanna qualify that? Last I heard China was selling things so cheaply wholesale industries are moving out of the US, for quite some time now.
No. You're just insane.

Incorrect. It was cheaper steel. Period.

The entire industry had bad management? I don't think so.

...better example is the steel industry.
Attila is right. The American steel industry has been decimated by a union that was completely unwilling to bend to market forces and compete with cheaper steel mills in Asia. "To save the village we had to destroy it."
Yes. Unions have done wonders for the auto industry, just think of the workers paradise we would create if we unionized IT.

After Border Patrol launches all dogs and get signal, I guess their main screen turn on. Then C.A.T.S. appears and throws you in jail.

You can't "settle" a criminal case. You can only "accept".
