work. I keep reading comments about how great living forever would be but everyone seems to be making the assumption you do so with unlimited resources. Money makes the world go round now, why are we waving our hands imagining that won't be the case in this sort of future?
Alright, after reading this article and now the comments, I will have to change my preferences to send "Funny" to the bottom of the pile. I don't read Slashdot for half-assed recycled jokes like this or "you must be new here", I come for an intelligent discussion. If you want to karma whore, add something worthwhile to the conversation or shut the fuck up.
I agree with you completely. There are many talented women that do not even consider engineering fields for reasons such as lack of education/motivation and social stigma. There are also many men that don't consider engineering fields for the same reason.
I see a huge problem with engineering education is that we continue to label everyone geeks, nerds, etc and often times even embrace that ourselves. Look at Slashdot, news for NERDS. Many people would find the depth of the conversations on Slashdot interesting but that's for nerds so why should they care? Then there is the "Geek Squad" at Best Buy. Yeah I really want to work with computers so I can be part of the fuggin' geek squad.
I think getting rid of these social labels would be a bigger step in the right direction than people realize.
Having Valve working on projects for the 360 will be great. Now Xbox gamers can enjoy the Valve team's amazing coding skill! For instance, when I play Counter Strike: Source
- I lose my favorite servers list each time I play - I am forced to reconnect to a server multiple times before entering - I am forced to download incorrect maps for the server I try to connect to - Player counts are almost always incorrect
When I was a freshman in college I slipped and fell in one of the school hallways and it was caught on the security camera. I worked with the guys that took care of the security tapes and they found the segment where I fell and turned it into an animated gif. This gif made its way on to some school forums where it was then edited and added to by other students (think carefully placed ninjas and shurikens).
Essentially everyone at the school knew it was me and thought it was hilarious. All the while I laughed along because... well... sometimes people fall. If you can't laugh at yourself how can you laugh at all?
And as a side note, it didn't "explode" onto the internet because it wasn't all that interesting if you didn't know the school/building/me etc etc. and it's easy to find funnier videos of people falling.
This sounds an awful lot like Streamload.com which has been out for years. Streamload lets you upload and download files and share files, which are transfered to another user's account in seconds as a link to the download. I used it for a while, even paying for the minimum subscription, when some of my friends were overseas. Granted it didn't have the fancy pants interface of glide and some of the other features...
Indeed, just ask Bob how hard it is. http://www.bobsgame.com/

Nice try AC but it's been obvious since day one jokes about overlords would result in a gain.

But other than that Steam is fantastic...
It could be worse, Nintendo is released the "Wii" pedal and no one know what that does.
...to a Phantom game console near you!
Ever see the movie The Big Hit with Mark Wahlberg...
I will use my Trace Buster Buster Buster!
... but on a smaller scale.

If the camera were to pan back from that photo I am sure you would see a hot tub and a French chef making crepes for his breakfast.
But really, I would guess Bill is never at his desk so he doesn't feel he needs a fancy office.
