They missed more than one thing. With a self driving car who will write the ticket? Also, who will represent the vehicle in court? In some states the law says the officer that wrote the ticket must be present to give testimony and there have been a few cases over the years that were thrown out because the officer wasn't there. Also, what happens when someone hacks the car, because you know that will happen.
I've read through some of the comments (but not all) and this may have been covered somewhere else. I think in order to discuss the concept of free speech it would be helpful to understand the official definition from the courts. So I found this, http://www.uscourts.gov/about-....

Free speech does not mean you get to say anything you want without consequences. It also doesn't mean you can't get fired for speaking freely. What it does mean is "Congress shall make no law...abridging freedom of speech". If a company makes false claims then you as the consumer have the right to sue them. If they claim medical benefits that are unsubstantiated they must declare them noticeably. For example if you buy an herbal supplement from the store it usually says something to the effect of "not validated by the FDA". If they don't say that then they must be held accountable. The same thing goes for politicians, they must be held accountable.
" If you have an old iDevice -- iPhone or iPad -- upgrading to the latest available version of the operating system could substantially slow it up. Not upgrading, however, exposes your device to a range of security attacks. It's a tough choice."
There's a problem with that last part, Apple doesn't support upgrading old iPads to the newest OS. We found that out when we tried updating my wife's iPad after taking it into the Apple store. Once you get beyond a certain point hardware wise the OS isn't backwards compatible.
The size of the target area and the slowness of moving the beam make this at best a minor form of crowd control. Seems to be effective against a few people in a tight area that have no tolerance for heat... Or maybe those that were told "for this demonstration you have no tolerance for heat". In larger groups where you have to worry about a bigger crowd this device would actually work against you.
I agree with other posters, give local if you can. Give to charities that help people help themselves if possible and by all means do your research. When I was active duty we used to get a booklet once a year of charities, their "mission statements" and the amount of overhead they took from donations.
An interesting point, yet all web browsers use an interpreted language and would be trusted applications, I'm not sure how this would protect them. For an enterprise solution this does seem like the perfect thing. Of course if I can create a signed certificate for my software then I would presume the "bad guys" can do the same so we may be back a square one yet thinking we are safe and secure.
I would categorize this as "Build a bigger mouse trap and they will make smarter mice"
Good point. I would just answer truthfully "Yes I have downloaded books, movies, and music. Doesn't everyone that has a kindle, netflix, or itunes account do that?"
This person has a point. They are required to enforce the Federal Law, so everyone that is responding with some sarcastic remark about "young sociopaths" or "making themselves more out of touch" are missing the point. What did you expect them to say? "Hey we were all young once we understand?"
I have also seen/heard of circumstances where "doing the minimum to keep the thing working" is allowed but actually improving the code is not because improving the code counts as "new work" and comes from a different budget than maintenance.
Seems stupid but that's how some shops operate.
"The minimum to keep the thing working" nearly always implies improving the code. All developers need to realize this and stop this silly false dichotomy between "maintenance" and "refactoring".
IMO, developers know there isn't a difference but management does not.
I wish I could moderate your comment up. I work for a company that doesn't officially have this policy but sometimes at the lower management levels this seems to be the mentality.
Having read the bible several times I would have to disagree with including it unless you read it in the original language. Too many beliefs have crept in with the translations that corrupt the writings. And if you do include the bible then you should also include the koran and the torah to allow for a broader understanding of religion as a whole.
I will agree with most of the rest of your list though...:-)
But the majority of the ones I see apparently don't care about those affected. As a Disabled American Veteran I am appalled that I gave my time and efforts for people like that.
Yes I'm affected by this, I will survive because I have a good job but I'll be loosing 1/3rd of my monthly income if this continues to the end of the month. Think about all of the disabled Veterans who will be struggling to survive because they rely on that income. The same Veterans that gave of themselves so that you can complain on this forum.
Are you serious? Do you realize that not everyone will receive back pay during this time?
You honestly see this as a vacation? Tell you what... Why don't you take all of your paychecks during this time period and send them to a charity. Because for non-essential personnel that's pretty much what's happened to them in the past and what will probably happen to them when this is over. Oh, and those same people you see as having a vacation were already not being paid for a few days a week before this whole thing started because of the budget issues.
Speaking as a non-American you should respectfully shut your mouth. Since you obviously do not know American politics you are not qualified to run your mouth and since you are not a voter you are especially unqualified to speak about our politics. Just like I am unqualified to speak about yours, so I don't.
Seriously? Considering that the Republicans are the ones holding the budget hostage exactly how are the Democrats withholding anything? The last time this happened (17 years ago) It was also the Republicans that caused the government to shut down. Perhaps you should do some reading on the Fox News site where "Fox contributor and National Review Online editor-at-large Jonah Goldberg asserted that the GOP is to blame for starting the shutdown."
But I'm sure the liberals are behind that also, aren't they?/sarcasm
The Associated Press writing about a story announced by the Secretary of Defense lists partial troop strength and effective location and announces to the world that we are ready to strike a foreign country. And yet we're in an uproar over memos that did not even come close to doing the same thing?
I agree with you, especially since you can't assign the words yourself and they are too arbitrary to associate with a physical place. As a marketing tool its of extremely limited value. Can you see a business wanting to be known as hot.banana.rug? Seriously, going to the example of "'union.prop.enjoy" and then look over to the London Paddington rail station, there are several dozen names for the station because of the size of the area used to define a location. One location gives you "civic.food.walks" and a short distance from that you get "years.bits.oasis". There are probably dozens of "names" in their database all pointing to London Paddington station. I can't see how this is going to be anything but mass confusion...
I'm not quite sure why your post is "insightful". I carefully read and re-read the one you replied to an no where did I see a hint of "So all government is evil?" Frankly I think you should reconsider your post.
Smash is entirely correct, "If you don't like it get the law changed." It's the way Government works here in the United States.

One day I hope to see an article about him suing Amazon and the US Postal system for sending messages on package delivery...

I agree with you, the tax exempt status for all religions should be removed.

And teachers must say that the laws of physics and chemistry "are due to Allah's rules and laws."
A more extreme example of intelligent design.

My first response would be to drop AT&T. I don't suppose that is feasible in your case?
I wish I could moderate your comment up. I work for a company that doesn't officially have this policy but sometimes at the lower management levels this seems to be the mentality.
I agree. This is like Microsoft trying to trademark Windows. I'm betting it will be thrown out once Hasbro gets involved.

The Romans had a saying for this, they called it Bread and Circuses.

I don't think it would have mattered who won the election in 2008, this has been growing since before the 9-11 bombing.
