    Rather than spend your time constantly cleaning up, why not re-configure them so the users cant install the software or the activeX is denied, silently, by default?

    Check the Internet Exploder Security options and global policies (if its Win NT/XP)

    You might try Mozilla too while you are at it

    They are not creating a whitelist of everyone who sends email to AT&T Customers - You are right that would be a mess

    They are whitelisting their customers SMTP servers so no one can send spam FROM AT&T's network.

    They are implementing a Sender Permitted From type of system

    Sender Permitted From seems like a pretty good idea for reducing spam. It doesnt block spam per se, but rather provides authentication of the sender's domain. ie/ no more spoofed emails from billg@microsoft.com.

    This should reduce spam as it will be easier to track the spammers and hassle them with legal threats or at least get their ISP to shut them down. (Or black list the ISP) See the link above for the full details

    I find it interesting that the Proxy is designed to circumvent Iranian censorship and instead replaces it with US censorship.

    Mostly unfettered. Like the Iranian filters, the U.S. service blocks porn sites

    Article has far too many (uneccessary) parentheses (brackets) makes random claims (must be called Ethernet) than doesnt back any of its claims up. It's not even (slightly) interesting (but at least it wasnt an advert)

    I bought 3 of these - A bit expensive but funky nonetheless.

    Color Kinetics patents aren't overly broad, like one that covers the mixing of different color LEDs to create millions of colors, using a technique called pulse-width modulation.
    Please dont start suing people for flashing LEDs on and off very quickly...this isn't new or innovative

    Important note for step 1. Send / present it to someone waaaay high up. They have to be above the self-interest of the current team. And someone who is not going to feel embarrased about the status quo.

    Also, throw in some Open Source in the mix where it will help further reduce costs

    1. Put together a professional business case for a dedicated IT team.

    Show some rough calculations for costs of dedicated staff, hardware, software(systems management, etc). Balance that against the savings from reduced downtime, increased productivity, better reputation from business partners and other goodwill. You will find that the numbers for having systems down and people unable to work become big very quickly.

    3.Show how long it takes to see a positive return on investment, and how much they'll be ahead in 2 and 5 years. Offer to set this up and run it.

    4.Enjoy your position as CIO of a fortune 500

    You didnt pay attention to my first point - At least among the H1-Bs I know, we are all paid equal salaries to our US counterparts. If a company is doing otherwise, then they are sleezebags. As I said, I havent seen evidence of this happening.

    I don't understand the lash against H1-B visa holders (I'm one myself) - The argument I keep hearing is that they are cheaper than US workers and thus drive down the wage for US tech workers. In my experience this just isnt the case.

    Here in the NY / NJ area I know about 20 H1-B visa holders and we're are all paid very well. It's definitely not cheaper to hire us than to hire US workers. We're hired because we have great skills that are difficult to find in the US. (Try foreign language skills and international experience)

    On top of that, we have to lead a precarious life, whereby if we lose our jobs, our lives are then transplanted half way across the World with little warning.
