    This is so important. I can give you points but you are already at 5. I recently wanted to install "Free Download manager". It says free but who knows what malware it has. Its source is not free for me to inspect.

    There is definitely a need for tools which restricts the ability of applications to perform certain tasks. Not the generic Zone alarm like gate but individually grant or deny permissions for an application to perform certain tasks.

    You still need zonealarm in addition to SP2 because sp2 firewall does not block outbound connections. Isnt that funny.

    Do you know how big their mainframe division is. Do you know what kind of 'Machines' that division sells. It was a machines company long before the piddly little PC showed up on the market.

    If you had spyware then

    1. Reinstall the OS
    2. apply SP2
    3. install firefox and zonealarm
    4. block everything except firefox (especially IE and explorer)

    There is nothing called a clean state once you have a spyware on your machine.

    If you are dumb enough to run windows again, then plan on doing this every 6 months. Why - long story but just plan on it.

    Read the latest Businessweek on the "China Price" and you will know what I mean. This knowledge economy is all BS and it is being proved right now.

    The nice thing is for both M$ and $un, their contribution is tax deductible either way. If it was an investment then it is a business loss now and so can be deducted over a period of 6 years (I believe). If it was a license, then again it was a business expense. Either way it was paid at . . .
