I was affected by this, as my company used motionxl.com (who consequently used CIT Hosting) as our web hosting and email provider. I had to spend some time last week explaining why we needed to find a new provider, as the FBI had simply confiscated all our data, including databases and other files. motionxl.com had been unable to retrieve their server even though their box only did hosting, and the FBI's warrant was for a box that launched a DoS attack.
My band used an autotuner plugin when we recorded last year. My singer doesn't have a particularly great voice, but autotune allowed us to spend much less time doing take after take until he hit all the notes right. Yes, it's 'cheating', and 'fake'... but so is recording the same vocal track for two days until all the notes are perfect. There were places where the autotune was too much, and would digitize his voice.. these situations required us to go back and have him re record. In the end, it simply polished off our album a bit more, and unless you are an audiophile you probably can't even tell.
I remember, as a child of the late 80s, every saturday morning watching Ghost Busters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, reruns of Transformers, Thundercats, even the old tapes of He-Man. It seems rather depressing that kids these days are not exposed to such entertaining shows. Although, when you look at the popular shows, maybe kids these days just don't have any taste. Who would rather watch Pokemon and Hey Arnold than Transformers or Voltron?
I truly believe that my saturday morning cartoon experience shaped me in many ways, one of which being my love for artistic anime. I wonder how the shows nowadays that kids watch will shape them?
Was Daniel Peng the same student who was threatened with the $98 billion lawsuit? Because after reading Joseph Barillari's analysis of the lawsuit it seemed like Dan would have had a pretty good defense to either have the case dismissed or to be acquitted.
Was paying the $17,000 really in the end the wiser decision? It just seems like he had a solid argument, especially given the recent development with Morpheus and Grokster.
