Given the horrors other nations face with national healthcare, would you rather spend weeks if not months to get an issue resolved via the bloated bureaucratic process?
You want improved service? Encourage competition and accountability. I cannot stress this enough!
So what about the current administration? Will they pony up the IT funds for an infrastructure overhaul and justify it to the tax payer? How about the administration after that one?
No. It will collapse. Maybe someone will throw water on it all. The point is to take advantage of the crisis as a political event to acquire 1000% more the funding that is necessary. Of that, 1% will get allocated to IT (if you're lucky), and 99% go into pet projects. A bit of a hyperbole (well, not really), just trying to illustrate corruption and politics as usual.
In comparison with the private sector, government employees are about the rudest motherfuckers I have to deal with. Be it our politicians, USPS, county court house, drivers license renewal and registration clerks, social security office. The list goes on I'm sure, but I'll stop right here.
I also work for an MSP that's a SonicWALL reseller. While I personally don't have my CSSA (sponsorship and training is expensive I hear), I have a few co-workers who were able to take the training and obtain the cert. But, my skill level is about on par with those guys. At least when it comes to understanding the functionality SonicWALL's provide.
Sure you can do content filtering, but it's impossible to configure any sort of granularity in the system such as, allow these users to access these sites, those to access those site.
Not true. It can be done using Single Sign-On (SSO). We had to do this for a few schools actually. In both instances, they were using AD. It takes a bit of work to setup, but basically we can restrict website access based on the AD user logged into the PC making a client access request. If the SonicWALL is unable to verify client access, it rolls them over to a default content filter group with limited access.
WOW! Are you detached from reality. Microsoft products are used because of market share and industry momentum. Bitch all you want about design and implementation, but the world isn't going to stop and replace everything with Linux/Unix as though it was some grand Moon Shot program. It will not happen. Get over it.
Well, they are a protection racket. The idea of near guaranteed employment is an intoxicating concept with parasitic results. Unions and such concepts are never going away so long as we have politicians that pander to them. And the pandering never stops.
Absolutely. It's much easier to sell reactive based support over proactive management and maintenance regardless what's truly in their ultimate best interest from a TCO perspective. That, and management loves to play the game of "hot hot potato". As long as shit didn't break on their watch, everything must be running 100%. Why spend money when you don't need too, right?
No offense, but you're doing it wrong. We have clients that purchased SonicWALLs as a solution to block websites. Specifically Facebook. The product works. I personally admin them for our clients.
I'm not sure what unit you're using or version of OS, but with SonicOS 5 on a TZ100 or 200 series perform the following...
You would think everything would be perfect from day #1 wouldn't you? I wish, but it doesn't work out that way. I'm not defending Microsoft here. I'm only making a point about their cyclical development process and product refinement. WHQL drivers not working right out of the box? Microsoft should catch hell for it.
I've got an Apple MacBook myself. While I got lucky on my OSX Lion upgrade, there are many whom have been left with hosed WiFi functionality. Of all the companies to get that one right, Apple should be at least flawless. They practically own both the platform and OS. Go figure.
Your post makes no sense. First you say that 3rd party drivers were about the only thing that made XP throw a BSOD, and then in the next sentence you use 3rd party drivers as the justification of why W2k was bad. Um, do you see some incongruity there?
Technically, most if not all drivers are 3rd party. I'm talking about OOBE. The native drivers and the way Windows 2000 handled them were really bad in comparison with XPs OOBE.
In many ways, XP is to 2000 was Windows 7 was to Vista
Again, Windows 7 handled drivers a lot better than Vista. Same comparison with XP over 2000. I've had BlackBerry drivers hose the entire Vista driver subsystem in that every time *any* USB device got plugged in, unplugged, and plugged back in again, Vista would want to reinstall them. It was a bug I ran across back when I was doing extensive Vista desktop testing with a version slipstreamed with SP2. It has something to do with a bug in the way Vista handled device driver signing. Windows 7 never had that issue. Video driver handling has also been improved with further tweaks in Windows 7 as well.
Fact is, first generation of any major change in an OS has always been plagued with problems. As for applications, same could be said of Exchange 2010 over 2007 and Office 2010 over 2007 as well.
I can't say that I've ever used Mission Control, and I'm honestly a bit miffed that they sacrificed my virtual desktops to put it in.
Using a MacBook with Lion? Four finger swipe from bottom to top. You see three windows at the top? Move your mouse pointer to the upper-right corner. Half a virtual windows will pop out from the side with a plus symbol on it. Click to add as many virtual desktops to your hearts desire.
Why oh why does this get trotted about? Windows XP was superior to Windows 2000 after the first service pack in every way. Especially in the device driver and multi-media department. About the only thing that caused XP to throw a BSOD was buggy 3rd party drivers. And that's the key word. 3rd party. Windows 2000 OTOH constantly gave disk I/O problems with a handful of Adaptec SCSI controllers that I know of. Not surprised. Windows 2000 was nothing more than an amped up version of Windows NT 4 with official DirectX support among other things here and there.
Been there, done that. I got falsely accused of speeding. Honestly. Long story short, the COP confused me with someone else that blew by me going 90 MPH while I was humming along between 65 and 70. Anyways, I was so adamant at fighting the system that I decided to represent myself via trial by judge. What that a fucking mistake. The fucking workthless pig showed up and the judge hardly gave me any time to make my case. You see, I didn't speak legalese. Effectively, I had no voice and thus was not heard. No matter what. I was a peniata. A fat fish in a small barrel being shot at with RPGs. I cannot stress how sad it was to be forced to remain mute while being humiliated in front of the jury. Oh, and the jury? Combined IQ maybe passed 90 if I was lucky. Fucked either way!
You're confusing racism with not agreeing with someone's culture. Personally, I know plenty of Kenyan blacks who can stand or are deathly afraid of American blacks. It has *nothing* to do with race. It has everything to do with culture.
Oh, we can all afford. Never mind the part that will leave you bankrupt with a ruined credit rating. Though I'm sure at the time that will be the least of your worries should you get convicted. But still.
I actually read an extreme environmentalist blog that perhaps tongue in cheek (perhaps not), advocated using nuclear weapons. The idea being how well nature handled chernobyl, the Earth would not only survive, but flourish post nuclear winter. I kid you not!
Color temperature. Incandescents range from 2700K to 3000K. CFLs have just now started to emulate that where before they started off at 5000K (bluish white). Personally, I can't stand first generation 5000K CFLs. You have this bluish white color and everything else in grey shadows. It's like I'm in a freezing cold morgue. How in the hell can people live like that? I prefer burning candles over that shit.
Some bulbs are specifically designed to be used in overhead heat lamps. Typically used in a bathroom where you want bright light and lots of projected heat. Psychologically and physically, they do wonders for those who live in Seattle, WA and Alaska. Personally, they've pulled me out of a funk after living a week with overcasting drizzle and near freezing temps.
There is a cause and there is a movement. To simply have a safe venue by which to vent anger and frustration without reprisal. The members that make up "anonymous" are from all walks of life, country, religion, race, and culture. You name it. A bit cowardly if you ask me. But there you go.
Anonymous is anonymous. It's a movement without any specific ideology behind their motives. There is no unity on anything they do. Accept for one. Anonymous can rest at ease that whatever actions they perform can happen safely and securely behind a wall of anonymity.
As an outsider looking looking to group them to an ideology (false premise), you'll just end up confused viewing them as schizophrenic. Don't do that. It's the wrong prism by which to view them.
Cuts both ways. While Sony has pissed me off lately, the hackers equally so. As a casual gamer, I'm so sick and tired of all these angsty hackers posing an "up your ass with a stance" attitude. Why the hell should I have to take flak from both sides just enjoy a little gaming? I tell ya, it's simply not worth my time or my security being compromised.
Let me just add something to my previous post. I find it especially ironic that as a Christian, I'm having to explain Darwinian evolution on Slashdot. Figure that one out!

It's a mothership feeding off the sun. It's powering up in preparation with an attack on Earth. OMG!

Log in as admin and go to the following page.

For the rest of Slashdot, feel free to check out their GUI simulator at https://tz200.demo.sonicwall.com/main.html
