The 70s? Hell, I've been using the sneakernet meathod since the early 90s. Even BBSs were to slow for me before I had net access in 97. Trouble was, blank CDs and CDR drive weren't cheap, so I ended up caughing up $10 per CD to be burned (help pay my friend for the blanks and drive).
Now days, I just keep a 1GB USB flashdrive on my keychain. If their PC or lappy supports USB2.0, transfering files are quick and painless;)
Throw in taxation on business consumption, and it may not take on the imaginary ideal economic efficiency that market fundamentalists leave their teeth under their pillow for, but it would actually work better in the world in which we live.
It doesn't matter how you tax small business be it implicitly or explicitly. It all comes down to the bottom line. You see, at the end of the day, all the costs get passed on to the consumer.
Taxation through the IRS is a scam to hide the "truth". We're all getting fucked! I say pull the wool off the eyes of Americans. Stop these games of deceit and deception through the IRS. Make the tax system simple, streamlines, and fair. Maybe then the politicos in office will be held more accountable to how they spend in office with OUR money.
Because normally, wearing such suits out in public would be like yelling "fire" in a theater. I mean, what's the first thing that goes through your mind when you see a bunch of people in hazmat suits? Well, I sure as hell wouldn't think I'm standing in a bio or radioactive free zone at first glance.
I'm suprised homeland security angents haven't dropped-kicked their ass already.
There is no such thing as "Anti-matter". Anti-matter is a discription, not a substance in of itself. Perhaps what he means is Anti-Hydrogen, or Anti-Oxygen. Those you can you can store in standard meterials if I'm not mistaken.
Get a court order. While the press has freedom of speak, it doesn't prevent them from being an accessory of a crime. Failure for the press to disclose such information would be held in contempt.
That is; if it gets to the press, it is right for the press to publish. If you don't want it published, either don't do it, or keep it small enough scale that it doesn't get leaked.
I'm of the same mindset. Punish those that leaked classified info to the press in the first place, not the press who publishes it. But personally, if I found out the press leaked secrets of national security, I will flog the fuck out of them.
Why else do you think both Democrats and Repubs are wishy washy on the whole imigration debate? Simple. They see illigal aliens turned citizens as future voters. Can't piss them off...nope.
Don't even THINK about a flat tax system getting passed. It will never happen as it takes away the ability for politicians to "architect" society in every facet. By rasing and lowering taxes in niche areas, they can herd people like sheep to their voting block. Almost sound like modus operandi of a crack dealer. Besides, once more than 50% of the population doesn't have to pay taxes...it's game over. For about reform.
"Reality" is judged based on perception even if what you are presented is false or misleading. Minds of all ages can be (and often) easily shaped and molded.
So am I avoiding reality? Only the kind that is packaged and spoon fed (AKA media). Doesn't sound like I have a weak mind after all, eh?
You can thank the media for that too. They will be more than happy to report bad news as opposed to good news for the simple reasons that bad news brings in ratings. Unlike all the other pundits/talking heads say, I've always understood how the media works though human psychology. They're not biased or liberal per-say. What they WILL do is pounce on anything that will bring on the ratings...be conspiracy, death, scandal, or anything unexpected. Frankly, good news isn't unexpected and doesn't provide the "shock" value to keep a loyal audience.
I'm not saying war is good. In fact, it war sucks. But when you look back at all the wars since WW2, the war in Iraq is nothing. Also, there's a lot of good news comming out of Iraq these past few years. Trouble is, you have to actually look for it. Yes it's there, it just so happens to be lost in transmission to the American public.
As Joesph Goebblels once said "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it". Same thing with the media. If they keep broadcasting bad news over and over again, people will come to equate such news with failure.
Someone happend to plot the data in regards to Bushes "approval rating" in correlation to the increase in gas prices. This isn't the first time such an event happend. One only has to look back to the Carter administration when gas prices shot up. A more indepth explination is found here.
And if you thought the Republicans are losing ground, the Democrats in congress are in even worse shape. So will they take back the House? I seriously doubt it. One thing for sure though, I expect a major shake-up within the Republican party come election time.
...but (seemingly) have never encountered the correct definition of Anarchy.
Well, I never did read the version of Anarchy on Wiki till you mentioned it. However, the version I'm used to was found on Dictonary.com as follows.
1. Absence of any form of political authority. 2. Political disorder and confusion. 3. Absence of any cohesive principle, such as a common standard or purpose.
Don't worry. Just you wait. One day, all humans will have a wireless uplink to a central government database. Every action at every second processes by your organic brain, will first have to parse the governmental database.
It's a perfect system (sic). Everyone's a "dumb terminal"
Modern Libertarianism (as I know it) does not advocate a lawless society. Even though it favors a militia, it should only be used as a back-up should the local government fail its people. So when I think of Anarchism, I think of a lawless society without governance of any sort.
As for an Ochlocracy, how can it be applicable in the case of corrupt law enforcement in Russia (or Mexico for that matter). Quite the opposite if the majority (citizens) are having to pay off a minority (police officers).
Maybe, maybe not. I honestly don't know the scientific reason. But if the dead can't breed, only the smart survive. Who knows, for all I know it's a combination of both learning and evolution.
Yeah, I know TW offers QoS, but that only is guaranteed within the TW network...
FYI. Time Warners digital phone service uses it's own IP address. Basically with the digital phone modem, your assigned two IPs. One is for the phone service, the other is data. If you want to use Vonage or Lingo, you *must* NAT your connection.
Let me share with you all something I've personally witnessed about evolution. I think it dove-tails your thread fairly well.
When I was younger living in Kingwood, TX in 1985 (still considered to be a new development at the time), I remember seeing many dead gray squirrels on the road. It didn't really seem to matter what roads, as the road kill was evenly distributed throughout the city. Over the years, I've seen exactly how they would die. These squirrels would run across the road in front of traffic. But that's not what killed them. What kills them is that they freak out and run back the other way, then back again, and again. Basically, they just run out to the road and can't make up their mind by running back and fourth till...POP...they see the underside of a tire.
Fast forward to today where the population of Kingwood, TX has at least tripled. Though more construction has taken place displacing vast areas of forests, you can still see gray squirrels all over the place. In fact, I can visually see MORE of them today then I did back in 1985. Even more astonishing, I don't see ANY dead squirrels. Maybe I will find a dead cat, or possum in rare instances, but no dead squirrels. How can this be? How can the grey squirrel population increase and yet their dead on the road decrease?!
I found the answer. When those bastards run across the road, they don't freak out anymore. They run in one direction and never look back. They keep going, and fast!
3rd party driver support is a double-edge sword. One one side, it offers the ability to release more consumer friendly destros as they can now use store bought PC upgrades with Linux driver support. However, because of this, there *might* be some driver instability to cause the OS to crash. If this is the case, the whole aura of Linux being uber stable get's kicked to the curb by the marketing firms at Microsoft. I mean, when "joe six-pack" find out Linux is now as stable as Windows...why would they switch?
Damned if you do, damned if you dont. Keep 3rd party driver support out, and you isolate Linux to the uber geek elite. Put 3rd party driver support in, and you bring down OS stability to Microsofts level.

Great minds think alike :)
Yes, I support the Fair Tax system too. I'm just missing the "offtopic" mod too. So mod me down you socialist fuckers!
These days, that's not being cynical. That's being "wise" to as such questions.
There is no such thing as "Anti-matter". Anti-matter is a discription, not a substance in of itself. Perhaps what he means is Anti-Hydrogen, or Anti-Oxygen. Those you can you can store in standard meterials if I'm not mistaken.

Rumor has it, the "M" in MTV will no longer stand for Music, but rather "My".
MTV = My TV
If true (which I doubt), it's about damn time they updated the acronym to reflect the changes over time.
You sir, are absolutely correct!

In other new...
Parents all around the USA are telling their kids not to listen to Hip-Hop "because it contained such poor English grammar".
Seriously! Since when do kids listen to their parents anyways? I know I sure as hell didn't. If it was "cool", it's game-on.

The data states otherwise if your willing to look through all the data here.
Around what time was this propaganda compaign launched? I would love to parse some old dictonary books prior to see what's changed.

That's not libertarianism, that's anarchy. There *is* a difference between the two.
Maybe, maybe not. I honestly don't know the scientific reason. But if the dead can't breed, only the smart survive. Who knows, for all I know it's a combination of both learning and evolution.

I'll ask you a question again, why don't humans have wings?
The answer's obvious...
Humans like to shit in private; not perched on a tree branch pinching a loaf 20+ feet off the ground.
Let me share with you all something I've personally witnessed about evolution. I think it dove-tails your thread fairly well.

They've gotten smarter, they're adapting, surviving...evolving.
