    Two things.

    1: You're assuming that I'm conflating counterfeit with legitimate 3rd party.

    2: I didn't know Anker (whom is a respectable brand) made cellphone batteries at such a price. Previously it was only pirated counterfeits sold anywhere from 12 - 14 dollars. But yes, there are a plethora of counterfeit OEM batteries passing themselves off as the real McCoy. The chemical composition and its purity is dubious at best. So when I said don't let that 12 buck burn a hole in your pocket, I literally meant it. :)

    Wow, what a colossal glittering jewel of ignorance the AC espouses! No, not all lithium batteries are the same. At best, a Samsung S4 battery will use a generic 1500mAh cell with filter material to fake a real one that's rated for 1800mAh. At worst, the actual cell is substandard quality in both materials and protection circuitry that leads to a run-away exothermic reaction; FIRE!

    You paid for, and trust a counterfeit battery?! Don't let that 12 bucks burn a hole in your pocket.

    BTW, my phone isn't just for personal use, it's also business. When I need a working phone, I need one ASAP. As usual YMMV. For me, value is in turn-around time to resolution; be it replace or repair.

    Never been to sauna, but I want to try. I'm a texan, so we don't really have the environment for that being a warm gulf state. When I traveled to China, I did try the hot springs (Singapore design I think) while I detoxed with rice tea; more or less. But yes, you come out feeling like a million bucks. I only wish I could do it once a month or more often.

    And yet you can die in temps and lower humidity levels from heatstroke. Figure that shit out. The moment your "ambient temperer sensors" turn off is the time you should leave IMHO. That's a real bad thing to have happen.

    See, that's why I get AppleCare. It's both insurance and covers battery failure too. Just walk right into an Apple store and often they will either replace the battery right then and there, or swap the phone within the hour. Restore from iCloud and done! To hell with those other cell replacement plans or insurance policies, AppleCare is the way to go.

    Can I walk into a BestBuy or elsewhere and get the same level of service for a Samsung phone?

    IT 101 for SMB (or any business)

    1. Get a business class Next-Generation firewall.
    2. Don't install JRE or Flash if you can at all avoid it; they're vector for web drive-by-download malware
    3. Installed managed AV for all workstations.
    4. Block outbound port 25 (SMTP) so as to not be black-listed and fart SPAM from an infected machine to others out in the world.
    5. Block TOR at FW level. Unfortunately. it's how bot-nets communicate these days.
    6. Limit share access by department and roles.
    7. Educate users of cons online.

    The more space you have, the more hardware you can cram into it. All things being equal in hardware, extra space defines performance. From multi-socket CPUs, to 4x SLI video cards and beyond.

    Basically, the desktop says to the laptop "whatever you can do i can do better!"

    Very much true. I sysadmin about 40 high-end laptops; Dell Precision and a few HP Elitebook series. Over the past six year generation after generation, I would say at least 10 of those suffered a GPU failure at some point. Most occurred under the extended warranty, a few past. As for the HPs, one had its GPU die. I try to blow as much dust as possible when one crosses my path. Very easy to tell who has pets at home and who doesn't. Unfortunately, these users are geoscientists that run some serious programs and need to be mobile. Point being in all this, I've never seen a high-end nVidia Quadro card fail in a desktop machine, but plenty in laptops.

    I'm sure there's that, but really I think it's how wealthy parents view their children; as precious little snowflakes. The slightest thing that may harm them, wont.

    My son got all his shots. He cried when I held him. But you know what, I wont have to worry about him growing up strong only later to be taken down by some fucking virus that was ostensibly eradicated. If anyone reading this has children that are not yet vaccinated, now is the time to start talking to your pediatrician ASAP!

    Simply put, a single wristband offers only a single datapoint in a biased location of activity. People work with their hands all the time. Through leverage, there will be lots of movement there while still sitting down. Wouldn't be better to have these sensors on both wrists and in the shoes and belt area?

    I'm very skeptical of this claim. Take a typical program hacking code all day. He lives a sedentary lifestyle with the exceptions of just his wrists moving as he types on the keyboard all day long. I seriously doubt that what amounts to a keyboard marathon burns all that much calories compared to moving around with your whole body. Simply standing upright and not moving your arms would burn more; because it takes energy for the muscles to keep you in that stance.

    True. However, it can be an investment that rides with inflation (like a tide lifting all boats). Though besides that, it's really good if you have children and need the extra room and a friendly community with good public schools.

    OTOH, if you're single and young (in this economy for sure), renting is the way to go. You're not tied down both physically and emotionally. You're also nimble in both energy and extended employment opportunities. Once you buy a house, you're stuck unless you can find a buyer; then comes the time frame and move. Selling a house is a much bigger PITA then buying one.

    Shorter version: Single, rent. Have a family, start looking at home ownership.

    Yeah, "regulated" in favor of the state; not the consumer. Just so that we're perfectly clear on this! That said, yes, I still favor a bank of sovereign currency over some BS virtual money.

    As a non-American I am surprised as you Americans allow criminals freely sell products that are clearly scams like this.

    First of all, they're not criminals. They haven't broken the law. And, their product (most likely) meets and exceeds ethernet specifications. No, what they sell pushes the boundary of the law of diminishing returns. For all we know, the ultra wealth wipe their ass with $100 bills. So what's it to you?

    I smell class action lawsuit. If you have engine specs advertised, you can't go back and change them post-sales. What if you wanted to purchase a WRX, but the Lancer had an edge in specs that made you want it instead. Now you have buyers remorse because of a detuned engine AFTER YOU PURCHASED THE CAR!. Yeah, fuck that!

    I have no problems with them saying "Here's an extra option to detune the engine, we fucked up our reliability testing, and recommend it. That, or we swap the engine out or replace the part that will fail" They can eat the cost! Not your problem!

    At what level? Rolling back a VM means not just rolling back the OS, but Apps as well. What happens if you already upgraded the SQL database? You can't exactly roll that back too. Well, at least not without a restore. When dealing with database driven application in a clustered environment, you simply can't pushed the VMWare "oops" button. Doesn't work that way.
