  1. Missing the point on Bush Supreme Court Nominee Former Microsoft Lawyer · · Score: 1
The article is not a flame. Its a statement of fact, of interest to Geeks - the nominee worked for a big computer company.

Linux fan-boys might be unhappy about that, but does this article say 'therefore she is not qualified for the Supreme Court'? read it again and get back to me on that.

The fact they're already discarded (i.e., destroyed) for fertility purposes doesn't negate the need for any debate for new uses.

Much of the science is published in journals available at your local University library - probably lots of them even published online. So it s pretty much open source. If you've got a lab, materials, staff, etc, feel free to lend hand.

Who determines freshmeat's ratings? Mostly a bunch of developers.

The subject of this article is a system for rating business-readiness, in language that managers can grok. The promise of OSS is not just that its cool, but that its better for the bottom line. OpenBRR measures that.

One option would be to sell this new database to the competitor?
Why should CAS pay for data that it probably already owns? I have a better idea. Instead of NIH paying to build a new database from scratch, they should contract with CAS to buy the subset of data they really want.
  18. Re:What is their interest ? on Open Source Molecules · · Score: 1
Why do they want to shut down a database that could help them find / verify their own data ?
The PubChem data quality is generally going to be inferior to CAS, because CAS has a whole team of professionals whose jobs is to ensure consistency and quality. So its unlikely to be of any help.

It's outrageout to say "we produce the same data, so the government should get out of our business". ACS should come up with other services (data mining, consultation,...) by which it differentiates itself from the free service.

The reality simply is that Cuba is run by a corrupt and incompetant military dictator whose only prior qualification was being a spoiled rich kid and lawyer. The complete mismanagement of the economy by his everlasting regime led to scarcity, and the spoils system inherent in any communist regime has led to a disparity whereby most Cubans live in abject poverty, but the priveledged few live in opulant comfort.

Hmm, except for the 'communist' qualifier, sounds like lots of countries the USA supports.
