Put a server with LTSP, maybe dual opteron, 1gb ram, a scsi drive.
Then put 30 (that's the max I reached) or more diskless terminals, no disk, low ram memory.
I you use gentoo, you'll feel a boost in the performance.
Install openoffice and all the applications that your company needs.
Then, Compare it with 30 or more big pcs, windows and office licences.
Believe me, that works in a company, and its really cheap. You'll have some problems with windows power users, but they'll complain whithout any argument.
I don't think that notebook will be powerfull enough t for today applications. I'll cause a bad feeling to new users of Linux.
It's going to be some kind of "bad advertising" for Linux.
For example, a system developed at the University of Washington can predict with 95% accuracy whether a couple will be divorced within fifteen years, based entirely upon one hour of observed interaction.
Linux, LTSP, and NAS.
You have a server, boot other computers from network (you can use wireless), use NAS server and xmms, and you have sound on all computers. You don't need hard drives (only on the server).
... The best distribution of linux is the one that fits your needs, you should get an easy to upgrade, add and remove packages distribution. Gentoo is the one for me. I can install, upgrade or remove packages with easy commands AND I get the performance that the processor can give (and the diference is incredible).
He's talking like if the idea is new.
For example, Freevo, is has out there for some years now, you can watch tv, listen to music, watch dvds, even you can play mame games!.
I saw Windows Media Center, it looks nice, but it seems the strong point is the video streaming and the integration with napster.

I know, we use Asterisk at work. But not every company has a person or want to spend time and money installing and configuring asterisk.
Please, we all know employers and bosses. Some like the idea of having a nice pbx, others just use Skype .
Asterisk is not as easy to setup as Skype.
If you have a company with specialized people, maybe you can invest money and time installing Asterisk, for the rest of the people, Skype is the best solution.
A link with your Skype Username in your webpage is a good move, like using your email or msn contact.
If I want to call help desk support in Europe I can do it.
The problem are the jokes, but we have spam too, right?
I don't think a "google os" is something google wants to spend time on.
Maybe they're going to customize firefox and linux and create a livecd distribution "Googlix".
"anyone who doesn't want their photo taken at a particular time could hit a clicker"
I don't see explained the technology that the clicker is going to use.
is this going to work with IR or what?
Do you need to be close to the camera to hit the clicker??
... but why anyone will choose Opera over Internet Explorer or Firefox?
If I don't want to use IE, I use Firefox, I don't see the point of a paid browser anymore.
Always the same...

Companies and owners sometimes do the same, they hire you, you work a lot, and then they decide that they'll end the proyect.
It's hard if you see it from the worker/programmer perspective.
I was working for my company for over one year in a really interesting proyect, suddenly the owner of the company woke up one day and said that the proyect was end. Why? if the proyect is great and is working perfectly in the company? I don't know
What I know is that still today, we are using what we'd developed in the company, we didn't sell it doh.
It's called marketing.
Why should I buy a soundcard with 5.1 DTS technology for my computer?
Just make a card with a lot of features and put it in big letters in the box, give some bucks to sites to review your product and put a good qualification and people will run to buy your product.
"Same card at lower price? hmmm, no, I'm sure there's something wrong with that card, I'll buy the same card that costs more, I'm sure it's better."
Here, in Argentina, only thing that matter is "costs", I think nobody knows about the SCO problem here and if they know, they don't care...
We're installing linux for our servers, and we're planning to install it on every desktop too.
1- Evolution + plugin for exchange.
;)
2- Kmail (or Kontacto) + plugin for exchange.
3- Microsoft Exchange web access.
The days of "I stay with windows becouse of outlook+exchange are over"
Come on, you don't need Windows
Somebody had remember this phrase in slashdot long time ago:
"First they ignore you, then they fight you, then you win"
Employees shouldn't install any software on company's computers. The admin should do that.
That's a strong point for linux.
