they probably knew it was unconstitutional when they enacted it
This happens way too often. The damage caused by these unconstitutional laws can be enormous since our courts (by design?) are rather slow in reacting most of the time.
Speaking of the government ignoring the Constitution, I got halfway through "Constitution Chaos" by Judge Napolitano. I had to stop reading it as the thought "rope, tree, politician - some assembly required" kept going through my mind. I'll try to finish reading it after I lock up all the firearms and hide the key.
It is fairly common for people who have no clue about how to design with standards complient html/css to use flash to make a wiz-bang menu that doesn't work with many browsers, takes longer to load, and is completely hostile to the sight impaired.
MySQL has a few advantages over PostgreSQL. Primarily, it's supported by just about every damn open source package in the world. If MySQL is closed up, OSS developers may choose to drop support for it. Personally, I think PostgreSQL is a better package than MySQL, but I mostly use MySQL because of its compatibility with everything. I won't, though, hesitate to switch if I am not happy with the direction of MySQL.
Now hold on a second. Would your friend have been able to get wireless working in Windows if the driver didn't automatically install? It frequently doesn't, you know? I can't count the number of times I've done a clean XP install, and had it fail to install sound drivers, video drivers, ethernet controller drivers, or wireless drivers. (But it does helpfully offer to look on the internet for such drivers. How it plans to do this with no connectivity is anyone's guess.)
This is why companies like Dell do well selling to the masses. You buy a system from them, it comes with the correct drivers and is ready to go out of the box (well, most of the time). We need that happening with Linux a hell of a lot more before it is a viable alternative to windows for the average joe.
Interesting that the BBC is pro-Chinese in the torch coverage. From what I hear (second hand), our local news is covering the protests, but I have no idea if there's any bias since I haven't looked for myself.
I lost my cable connection last week (glitch?) and can't be bothered to have it fixed because the only shows I care to watch are recorded (dvr) by a friend so we can watch whenever we want, not when the networks choose. At the moment the shows I am interested in are: Dr. Who, Torchwood, Battlestar Galactica, and Terminator. Yes, I am a card carrying geek!
I still say the market should decide. Yep, we lose great shows like Firefly, but it's only a show, not the end of the world.
Fox news leans to the right, CNN (and all the other major networks) leans to the left. At least there's a choice. I don't watch either of them.
And you are mistaken to think I live in the U.K. I've traveled extensively in Europe and have been to the UK (London, what a shit-hole!). Here in the states, every now and then I turn on "BBC America". If they only show their best shows on this station, then UK t.v. is worse than I originally remember.
Talk to a soldier who returned recently from Iraq. That's where I get my information. Directly from the source, not distilled through a newspaper with a political agenda.
Nope, but I'm in the Patriot Guard Riders so I end up meeting a lot of soldiers returning home directly from Iraq. Without exception, they are completely disgusted with the main stream news depiction of what's going on. "It's like they are reporting on a completely different war!" was one quote that sticks in my mind.
Under Saddam there was domestic terror. The state police had a nasty habit of grabbing people and tossing them in prison and torturing them. Other than some EXCEPTIONS from a few rogue assholes, this isn't happening now. Saddam also put children in prison. He and his henchmen would torture babies in front of the parents to get information and confessions.
Only a complete moron would say things are the same.
The BBC and other public broadcasting services must be sustained
Why? The BBC is not a neutral entity. They are extremely one-sided politically. This is not a problem when it is commercial t.v. When you are forced to pay for it, however, this is completely wrong. I say convert the BBC and other public stations to a commercial status, drop the t.v. tax, and let them compete with each other as they should.
Most American commercial t.v. sucks. So what? Turn it off or switch to a cable station. If your cable stations all suck, cancel the service. You get to choose with your remote and your wallet. The choice isn't left up to some idiot nanny-state politician who thinks he knows what is best for you. BTW, most shows on the BBC suck, too. Just as with commercial t.v., there's the occasional gem (Dr. Who).
I see you only believe what comes out of the MSM for your Iraq news. In reality, things are mostly going rather well over there. Hospitals, schools, and businesses are being built. Most places are peaceful with some remaining hotspots. The Iraqi army is taking a more active role in dealing with the insurgents and extremists with our armed forces taking on more of a support role. But you wouldn't know that reading the NY Times or any of the other major newspapers. From what they say, Iraqi is a bloodbath and nothing good happens there.
The plates don't send secret signals. They simply have a special seal on them that is easily recognizable. The police don't give tickets to people with these plates and the people who check the light-camera photos don't issue the ticket. Nothing high tech about it.
Blade Runner is the perfect example of a great movie that is not true to the book. I'm glad as the book, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, is a stinking pile of shit.
So the guy trained to use the anti-tank rocket is killed. Isn't it nice that they put nice, easy to follow instructions on it so that any private can use it and save everyone's ass?
I'm looking at the calendar and thinking, "this has to be a joke!". But then I think about all the bullshit trademark/copyright/patent lawsuits of the past few years. I honestly have no idea if this is real or not.
Why is this corruption syndrome, typical of the USA cropping up in very successful [European] countries?
Such an unfounded USA bashing. Jeez. You need to get out (of the country) more. Corruption in Europe is as old as Europe. Hell, we (Americans) learned it from them!
I stopped reading newspapers because their extreme editorializing in news stories got out of hand. They can't even pretend to be objective. This is not a left-wing or right-wing specific problem. It is across the board.
Example, yesterday I saw headlines saying the recent attack by Iraqi forces against an extremist's militia was having problems and would probably fail. That's not telling the news. That's stating an opinion. As far as I can tell, this view was based on the Iraqi request for air support in a particularly tough spot.
Today the extremist told his followers to lay down their arms. Yeah, doomed to failure.
Or the texas lawyer thinks the good ol' boy network will kick in as usual. It doesn't matter if daddy is not hearing the case. No one even has to say a word about how things should go. It's one of those things that is assumed.
In the U.S., more children drown in backyard (private) swimming pools in two days than are killed by gun accidents for the entire year. Since "think of the children" is one of the major arguments of the Brady Bunch, I think we should "think of the children" and outlaw the far more dangerous private swimming pool!
The number of deaths came from (I think) the CDC about a year or so ago. I don't remember the exact citation, but I do remember 2 days vs 1 year very clearly. I'd google it, but I can't be bothered at the moment.
FYI, I'm being sarcastic. I don't really think backyard swimming pools should be outlawed. As with firearms, proper safety precautions must be followed. However, if people really did "think of the children" we should see a huge "cover your pool" campaign that dwarfed the "guns are bad" campaign.

They finally fixed that problem? About time.
Fixed that for you.

I can't wait for that video to get released.

Adjust the amounts for inflation. Without taking into account legal expenses, the city comes out ahead.
The only nice thing I can say about Philip K. Dick is, "He's a better writer than L. Ron Hubbard."

Simple instructions are the fail-over mechanism.

None of my guns have killed anyone. I have murdered a whole lot of paper targets, though.
Have you considered renting your brother out as a pool sitter?
