Tony Hawk was not a DC exclusive, it was an enhanced port from the PSX (and it was a very original game when it was introduced). Also, you omit Seaman, Shenmue, AFO, that Maraca game, the Fishing series, Jet Set Radio and several other original games for the DC. Honestly, the DC had _lots_ of bizarre games. Maybe too bizarre for most people, since they didn't sell well in general.

How much space would the files for each archived mud require? I run a small web hosting company, I would consider donating space if someone is actually interested in creating a mud code archive.
Does this suggest the jump in complexity of modelling/lighting etc. is too much for mod makers?
Doubtful. The newer engines simply didn't have enough oomph to overcome H-L's critical mass. Doom 3 will, most likely, from hype and name recognition alone. Not to mention the fact that most modders idolize Carmack.
Well, you ARE talking about a gaming community which revolves heavily around modding games (and playing those modded games), you know. People like Half-Life, definitely (which started out using the Quake 1 engine, if I remeber correctly), but they get way more excited about Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, etc.
A _lot_ of the people on here who are slavering for Doom 3 because of the ooh-ah factor are happy because they know that they can make some cool maps, or even create their own mod, or update the mod they already work on for an an older engine. A lot of others are simply anticipating what the aforementioned people are going to do with all the new goodies.
Basically, Doom 3 means a whole new wave of mods from the community, and probably a fun game to play in the meantime, while Halo 2 is a game you can play on your Xbox until you get tired of it. That's the difference.
Before you respond, think about this : Would so many people still have Half-Life installed on their machines without Counter-Strike? The mod community means a lot to the continued popularity of any game, and it's also arguably the largest difference between console and PC gaming.
