Or it will be when this monstrosity comes out. Being kinder than need be, one can expect this to be a whole number multiple in size of IE6 or 7. 3 different incompatible engines!?!? Wow!
Remembering from previous reading on this, the licensing agency has wording that all music has to pay. Independents who want their cut of the fees have to join the licensing org. and pay the full membership fee.
c: I can not open an account with Firefox. p: Use IE. c: ok. I'm opening IE now...Hmm, I have an error message. p: That doesn't make any sense. You should be running IE 7. c: That is not available on the Mac. p: Sorry, but you need to buy a PC. c: No, you have just lost a customer.

Unfortunately this situtation is simmiliar to that discussed by Amateur Radio Operators a few years back. While lobbying is good, actually being actively part of the 'system' is much better. If even.1% of those in the active/. community were to get involved at even a local level op politics think of the voice we would have.
And maybe some of us would actually like it. --- I look in the mirror and all I see Is a young old man with only a dream
This is the type of stupidity that gets me to "just say no" to someone. I will watch, but if this true, IDG will get a package from me containing the books of theirs that I already own.
By the way, they also charge you if you want no long distance carrier. When I dropped my second line for DSL I planned to go to dial-around for long distance. The H^HBell Atlantic rep. said it would cost more to have no LD carrier than to choose 1.
Actually the generic POTS voice only customer does benefit. Better switching systems means that circuts can be completed quicker and quieter than before. It also would allow the RBOCs to charge by a smaller time increment if they wanted to. Before anyone complains about how much the InterNet user costs your RBOC, check out their profit for the last few years.
And I can watch it in glorious digital on my original laserdiscs.

However, having it only available on the torrent networks is not useful. There are some places of work, mine included, that do not allow any torrents.

They seem to have completly ignored the relevant facts concerning costs to a private entity, and the potential damage to their operating methodology.
Get ready for this to become ugly. As I hope and expect Google to continue to say no to the phishing expedition.
