I have no idea why they don't catch on better in the US. I had a Ford Tempo that was a diesel and got between 50-60 MPG, and that was when it had 130,000 miles on it. I think part of the reason is that the few cars with diesel engines usually have a truck type drivetrain(my Tempo could out pull most of my friends trucks) which limits the speed which is what most people here seem to want, or they are in cars that most people don't want, I can remember my grandparents had a diesel stationwagon for years.

Umm, you either have a math problem or a measurements problem here

    Your statement

    IF 1lb meat = 7lb grain

    AND 7lb grain = 1000lb water

    THEN 7000lb water = 1lb meat

    is not adding up

You may have meant 1000lb water = 1lb meat

however, I would really like to see where you got those numbers from, not saying your making anything up just curious as these types of things are interesting for me.

First, I assume you are typing this on your "green" pc that is being powered by you turning a crank on the generator you built out of sticks while you are sitting on a rock in your cave. If not you're just as much a part of the "problem" as everyone else.

The SUV argument is always my favorite, my JEEP(you call it an SUV if you want if I do it it becomes tempermental) is almost 30 years old and it still gets 21 mpg, now while I realize this isn't earth shattering, consider the number of new vehicles that people haven't had to buy(and therefore have manufactured) over the years because of it. I look at some of the new lightweight fuel efficient cars around now and it's ridiculous how easy they are to total out in a wreck, requiring a new car to be built, and if they are fixable you don't just pound the dent out and repaint, no you tear that part off and replace it, but hey their enviro friendly because they get 35 MPG, horseshit!!

The biggest problem I have with most "enviromentalists" is that they are all for things that are a help in their eyes but anything they view as bad is bad and there's no changing it not matter how good the argument and how much proof you give them.

Be really careful with that baseball bat theory. You need to make sure your case is super air tight before you try that. A very wise man once told me there is only one victim in a courtroom and you can decide if it's you or him.

  12. RTFA then on Simulation Of An Asteroid Impact In The Year 2880 · · Score: 1

The 60,000-megaton blast of the impact vaporizes the asteroid and blows a cavity in the ocean 11 miles across and all the way down to the seafloor, which is about 3 miles deep at that point. The blast even excavates some of the seafloor. That last little line is the big one, depending on how deep the ocean is where it hits will determine how much of the ocean floor it will throw up in the atmosphere. Also, I would like to know what theory you have that says a 60,000 MEGATON asteroid won't heat up to OMFG hot on entry into our atmosphere. Assuming you don't have one, which you don't, all that heat has to be dissapated to somewhere and hey look this wet stuff evaporates. As for the wave height sure the low countries should be concerned but what about the island countries (cuba, Puerto Rico, etc) some of the smaller ones could be wiped off the map, also keep in mind most of the tsunamis the world has dealt with have only been around 10-15m in height with the tallest being arount 75m I believe. So no one really knows what will happen when the 400 ft wave hits New York and starts going inland.
