"3) The number of PS3's in homes now and in the future mean there are already an order of magnitude more Blu-Ray players in consumers hands than HD-DVD, and that gap will only grow wider."
And those same PS3's have been reported to playback blu-ray movies HORRIBLY. Some movies are playing back at 480P! They almost always down convert. If you actually had one of these instead of being a Sony Fandboi w/o a PS3 you would know this."
Ok, having a PS3 and several blu-ray discs I have to say that this is total FUD. Blu-Ray looks great played on the PS3 presuming you have a television that can do 1080i/p. If you are one of the unlucky few who can only reach 720p, then yes, it will downconvert to a format that your TV can handle. At some point you have to bite the bullet of being an early adopter and buy a newer TV that supports all formats (480i/p, 720p, 1080i/p). In my case I bought my HDTV set back in 2003 and got 4 good years out of it. I knew at the time I bought it I'd never have it for more than five years given that the standards were still being hammered out.
Heh you guys are lucky. Here in our NOC the rules are:
1)No placing your coat on the back of your chairs 2)No reading printed matieral at your workstation 3)Drinking out of approved spill proof containers only. 4)No headphones, stereos, or music playing devices of any kind. 5)No eating in the NOC. 6)Buisness proffesional dress at all times (even though we are locked in a little room far from anyone who cold see us). 7)You may only leave the building once during your 10 hour shift. 8)No outside laptops or computers of any kind are allowed. 9)No sleeping in the NOC (we all had to sign statements saying we wouldn't do that one). 10)No propping feet up.
Anyway you get the point. Our boss would FREAK if we did anything except sit here and stare at the monitors while waiting for something to break. No way in hades he'd let us play games to stay alert. Consider yourselves lucky if you get ANY kind of joy at all in your NOC.
This is not news. Resistance Fall of Man for the PS3 already has this feature, and I'm SURE that there is prior art to that on different systems.
