and agree UNLESS some company in the same line of business etc. tries to use the name. The trademark holders SHOULD have DIBS to their name where it applies to the field they are in. As for the TM holders getting a name from a private individual using it NOT in competition with the owners, then first come first serve I say. Of course we all know money talks and few can compete with the monetary largess of a corporation in any field:(
on anything but.coms. For some reason people seem to think being a copyright holder forbids anyone else from using that name...wrong
#1 it only applies to like business or competing enterprises I believe.
#2.com was for commercial enterprises, the remaining TLD's should be up for grabs. The only way the copyright holder should be given precedence is when there is a question of competition in a like market, or someone is trying to make a buck of someone else's name.
McDonald's.org should have NOTHING to do with the resturants unless Micky D's has the org for the ronaldmacdonald house, a valid charity.
If we were not in the middle east for ONE purpose ONLY, oil as we all know it, and IF our government had not systematically SCREWED everyone they've ever dealt with in the Middle East maybe things would be different. It strikes me as WE are the force which is UNITING the muslim world just as the terrorist attack became the uniting factor for western culture. If the US and other western interests dealt with the Middle eastern countries on a more up front basis things would be better. I can hardly see the so-called Muslim world standing united without an immediate enemy to rally around. Now DON'T get me wrong, international terrorism is EVIL, and I condemn those responsible, but REALITY says people do not just become SUICIDE bombers for NO REASON.
If our country spent just a portion of the 30 BILLION we are gonna cough up in aid to our various allies and supporters for this mission, on say serious alternative fuel sources, we could leave the Middle East to solve its own problems. I doubt that the hardline interpretaion of the Taliban is going to spread like wildfire acrossed the muslim world unless the pressure of WAR with the WEST drives it.
Sure he or she is, just not to us, unless you happen to be a corporate lobbyist or soft dollar distributor. Lets face it the PRIMARY goal of any elected official these days is fundraiser for the party.

that was involved in a fake posting snafu not too long ago, or have I got them confused with someone else ?
I modified a network rack using standard erector set pieces from my childhood to include my linksys switch and a desktop PC. If I wasn't under the influence of a controlled substance I get off my butt and take a picture , but too much effort now sorry.
I did not say the cameras had no use, ONLY that the only reason the Banks had them was as an insurance requirement/discount. The bank looks to the insurance company to pay off any losses. The insurance company is the one seeking to minimize the loss. That IS a simplification of course there is always a marketable image of safety and security.
cameras, The INSURANCE companies insist. They are next to useless in catching anyone, no one robs a bank without a mask or a disguise, but we get a 15% discount for having cameras 7/24.
It is the exact same thing with the $6 security guards. They are not supposed to actually DO anything, they are forbidden from touching a customer or worker in a bank unless they are certified first aid. It is all to save a buck on insurance.
but I was speaking about ranks of say 500 drives.
The odds catch up with you then. Power off a Hitachi data frame and let the disks spin down to a stop, then do the reverse, if they all come back I'd be SUPRISED.
They are specifically tied to a physical location and specific items. So do the cops need a warrant to search my house and ALSO one to search my "cyber-space" even though the machine holding said cyber space sits in the same location ? I more confused than ever...
Powering them up and down is bad for them period. An always on systems has better success as the drives never need to spin down and back up. I work as hardware support in a large data center and the WORST time is the annual building powerdown:( More stuff shuts down and never comes back in that one weekend than fails the rest of the year. If it was not Federally mandated there is now way we would shut down at all but the 21K vault and the high voltage UPS systems have to be inspected along with our giant diesel tank.
"If I sign up for a mailing list, I should NOT have a bunch of nannys insisting that companies waste my time with another verification step.
I appreciate that they are pushing for opt-in standards, but there is a very fine line between looking out for the rights of consumers and looking to "protect" consumers from themselves.
Which do I hate more: people who want to exploit me, or people who want to coddle and protect me, whether I want it or not? Tough choice.
I think I hate the coddlers more. I can always protect myself against exploitation, but I can't always get away from the nannys."
You know it is pretty sad when a well written intelligent dissenting opinion is marked as a troll. I personally don't agree with Reality Master 101 but his opinion is valid, and his piece is on topic, and did not deserve a troll. Moderation was never a strong suit on/. but this is pathetic.
With the Gartner group sending letters to all their customers RECOMMENDING they remove IIS as "an unacceptable security risk" based on the TCO of IIS rapidly exceeding the cost of the hardware, the OS and THE SUPPORT STAFF. When a nationally recognized consulting firm that supports 400 of the top 500 firms , and one that HAS BEEN PRO M$ up to this point, or at least VERY neutral, suddenly starts advocating ABANDONING your investment you know you have BIG PROBLEMS. I personally think this is TOO LITTLE TOO LATE. Why was the product not shipped like this in the first place ???
of course your intellect is a wee bit on the small side but us geeks are understanding and forgiving, we'll let even wastes of skin such as yourself in:)
I'd like to help but I refuse to provide them the information they wish just to participate. Try and find a more politically suitable place to host and you might find more than 40 people willing to help.
don't stop buying just buy INDIE artists. Then when RIAA members point to a slump, INDIE music can point to a growth...VOTE WITH YOUR DOLLARS, the RIAA understands NOTHING ELSE.
you'll have to wait a few years till we finish killing off ourselves. If any foreign enemy shows, that would be enough to unite us, and their are enough guns in private hands to supply any 3 armies.

your PATENTED business technology as A STANDARD then. The issue is wether we should allow a standard to be announced and force people to adhere to it, and at the same time allow some company to sit back and reap the rewards of the W3C pushing their product for them. If you want a closed technology more power to you, but don't expect someone like a standards board to do you work for you.
As to why Linux on the desktop is not popular I disagree with you. I don't think the whole package matters at all, or PRICE, it is WORD, EXCEL, and GAMES that keep home users tied to M$.
Most people NEED/REQUIRE interoperability with work, which for MOST people entails MS Office. The second driving computer force is GAMES, maybe the first, hom many kids talked their parents into a computer so they could do homework or Dad could do Work, just to actually get DIABLO:).
