    maybe CICS DB2, VSE etc, they are not what I would consider qualified Linux programmers. Not that they could not learn it,at a cost in $$'s and TIME, but the support would have to be a hash of Unix and Mainframe support until things blended nicely.

It then becomes your word against a 'trained, and experienced' police officer and YOU lose unless you have 2 'unrelated' witnesses. Note my experience is limited to California

    I won't purchase a game unless it has a demo, or the cool-guys at Wizards of the Coast or Comp-USA open one up and let me test drive in their LAN room. Those are the only to places around here (SF Bay area) that I know of that will let me try before buy. Of course the BEST option is to buy with a credit card and then allow VISA to negotiate with the company if it's a DUD.

    they have a holding tank for those that have not gotten fed up enough to leave, and a HUGE SALES force to draw in new suckers (err I mean customers) When the were running their own stuff PacBell was decent i suppose, now they PLAIN SUCK, support, operation, nearly every facet of interaction with PACBELL DSL is painful.

    There service has GONE way down hill in the last 6 months. I've been a dsl customer for almost 28 months and since the prodigy merger things really SUCK. My line is slower, support IS EVEN MORE CLUELESS, and the things that used to function no longer DO. I have switched over to Astound cable, no Static IP but they answer the phone and actually follow up on calls. PacBell service is the WORST in ANY company I've ever dealt with in ANY field. I would rank them right up there with the IRS and the DMV. For your own sanity and protection, STAY AWAY FROM PACBELL.

    which is just short of the worst CRAP you can get on the market today. DELL/COMPAQ for examples use the lowest end equipment and OLDEST parts they can possibly get away with. We regularly have to bring the BIOS into this century, and often they will send special ordered SCSI3 drives with sub-par SCSI2 controllers, like you wont notice.

    Win2k runs like a champ with Debian on my p2 450 with 196 mb.

    now, does this mean I can pirate TIVO service as well. I really LOVE those Canadian satelite hackers. For under 100$ I have all the DirecTV I can handle, and HU card in a reader/writer atached to a pc to do the decoding and protect my fragile card from a BURN signal. By my calculations it is traffic in the FREE airwaves and MINE for the taking :)

    point. I do not beleive you can force a foreign national to pay, or imprison them, UNLESS they come to your COUNTRY. Much to my shame the USofA
    has decided that our laws apply elsewhere, Why should the Aussie's be any different. Freedom was just an illusion fostered by the governments' INABILITY to exercise complete control. Technology is wiping that barrier out rapidly.

    Under 2k, nt sp4 or better and win me you can "usually" change ip's without a reboot. Note the use of USUALLY, sometimes it all goes south and a reboot is all that fixes it.

    million's of pictures in it... Grow UP !!!!! Borders could not implement this kind of system without SUPPORT. Nor could the government FIND A BETTER WAY TO BEGIN COLLECTING everyone's picture for a national biometrics DB. It starts in ID'ng CRIMINALS, because they have no rights, then moves on to the children, for "THEIR safety" of course, by then they just wait and soon everyone is ID'd.

    bear the cost of the T1 access point, and pass it to the neighbors monthly. I've had a dry pair connect going before to a friend the lives block or so away. A couple of guys in our local lan group are phone techs who set up the lines for us.
    We had 10 people at my house and 8 at his connected to UT and TFC via the dry pair and both our cable/dsl connects. Worked nicely and made for an AWESOME lan party.

    If it was an act of god, and they had no control then QWEST is not at fault. If on the other hand there was time and precautions were available for MOST PEOPLE, then QWEST is negligent and deserves to pay for that. I am not a qwest customer nor do I know all the details. PACBELL sent email out to anyone who showed PORT 80 activity nearly a week prior to the problem. There WAS NO SERVICE interuption for me, and it is WELL WITHIN my rights as a customer to run a web-server or anyother server. As to why the 'FUCK' they should care, can't help ya there bud.

    Did they provide reasonable protection for their customers ? I think they screwed the pooch badly,
    and are looking for anyway to blame someone, anyone else. There were very simple steps to remove ANY machine that was infected, rather than DO THE JOB they were getting PAYED FOR, they will blame someone else. If you offer a network, your clients have a right to assume YOU KNOW HOW TO RUN IT.

    for QWEST and EVERYONE of your statements would still be true. The ONLY thing PAC-BELL has going for them is DSL is a relatively stable, or it would be beyond them to handle at all.
