Gosh.. i've you had read the article and the PDF you would have known that he was reporting on stuff that happened inside TSO on his weblog outside of the game. Also: EA removed his account because they didnt want the TSO players to know about the scamming. (and all the other bad stuff that can happen to players) They didnt discuss it, they just whiped his account.
He wasnt making claims about 'the players own the world they play in'.. so your entire point just flushed down the toilet of useless comments.
What he said was: The players create the content and the stories in the game. They make the game fun.
Dang.. You just sound like a customer.. who enters an online blog.. and without reading the posts (maybe just glancing over the subject lines) starts telling people why the stuff stated in the posts is wrong. Sound familiar?

Isnt that the same network that is calling the dutch "babykillers"? I saw a story on the dutch news last night that fox news and other news sources where reporting that in the netherlands baby's are killed because they are missing a few fingers. Sometimes i wonder if the American's believe their newssources. I hope not:P
Yes i have played swg during the beta period.. but lack of content made me quit after the beta was over. I still read swg boards to see if the situation has improved but allas it hasn't. I played ao for over 2 years and was looking for a sci-fi mmorpg. AO became old pretty fast.. no storyline.. not enough quests.. It's current state is how i percieve swg to be in a year or 2.. of sony get their act together that is.
What i'm missing in all these discussions is a game that has grown a lot lately. I've recently restarted my old earth and beyond account. And i'm loving every minute of it. I quit last time because the storyline and overal feel was 'unfinished'. But the dev's have made a lot of improvements. A new enemy.. a large scale war.. loads of solo quests that fit in the storyline. And best of all... a galaxy filled with things to discover. The pace of the game is still too slow most of the time.. Warping takes ages... but i find it relaxing to look at the warp screen and see all the planets fly by:) *maybe i'm just weird:P* It;s just the attention to detail that rekindled my love for this game. Starbases feature warning messages.. commercials for new weapons.. News reports from the front. Not just random stuff but it pays to listen to them !
Any other people playing this game atm? In all the mmorpg discussion i read here on slasdot i see no mention of earthandbeyond.. wich is a shame really.. cause in my eyes it's the best scifi mmorpg at the moment. *after i restarted ao i got bored in 2 weeks:P* And yes.. in this game everyone is a starship captain.. and it's still fun.. even explorers gain expe for flying around the galaxy or looking in places where noone has been.. or can't go due to the dangerous enviroment.
ok, i've heard enough of the 'this don't run on my linux/beos/atari2600 comments and i don't really care about those.. I'm sure 95% of you guys have a pc with win98/win2000 on it somewhere:P
What i'm really curious about is the movie.. with 32 minutes running time it can't be that deep or good.. and it's quite costly for 4$ (compared to vhs or a cinema ticket) Has anyone seen it yet and is she/he prepared to comment on it?
(storyline/acting/special effects)
there's almost no info on the sight%sound site..
*postum emailum* Has anyone noticed that sightsound.com uses a 1900x1200 BLACK background jpg.. ok.. it's only 41kb to download but i've seen the site on 8mb gfx cards and i was wondering WHY it took so long to load the site.. and WHY my hd was rattling like a mad snake.... and it was the background image:).. seems they forgot that images need to be expanded before u view them)
Someone hasn't screwed up.. as you can see.. IF you read the page there's absolutely nothing scientific about this uptimes project... IT's a project for fun.. not for research.. but most slashdot readers seem to be missing the point... COMPLETELY..... Tgm just wrote something that wasn't there yet.. and a lot of people have joined his small project.. If the slashdot readers would read the pages before commenting on it then the world would be a better place... I think!:)
All this serious talk about uptimes.. sure you can learn some things if you look at the list.. mostly that nt and win are crap os'es when it comes to obligatory reboots etc...
Hasn't anyone thought about it that it can be fun to have the highest uptime? I mean.. it's just like trying to get the character with the highest nr of hitpoints in your local mud, or playing text only versions of planets... totally useless on it's own.. but fun nevertheless...
Also on a note about the stats not being really usefull... www.uptimes.net has only recently been activated... so it's normal that there are not much beOs users etcetcetc... the old page had a lot more users.. and i guess most will migrate to www.uptimes.net soon.. But... if you're not satisfied.. just dl the client and add your beOs box to the list!
I personally know the guy from uptimes... *We even had a "few" beers together last nite:)* And he himself sees it as it is.. a small bit of fun.. and a nice bunch of statistics to show of his php skills.
So.. try to look at things his way.. don't start os wars over the page and the stats.. but register and contribute to the overal stats..
Wow.... Nice news.. I loved the matrix.. I hated keanu's other movies.. speed was kinda lame.. and bill and teds excellent adventures where.. hmm kids stuff.. although funny.. In the matrix keanu changed (imho that is) from a sex symbol into *dutch word comming up* 'a bikkel' He portraied the role of neo excellent.. and made the entire movie totally believable.. I also liked the guy who played morpheus.. and I can't wait for the sequels.. allready TheMatrix has become one of my favorite all time movies.. together with films like trainspotting and reservoir dogs etc... The camera work was great.. although there was a lot of 'borrowed' john wu stuff in it..
All in all.. thematrix has made a nice entry in my friends and me's regular movie nights *or at work:O)* And we have seen it aproximatly 19 times now.. I know thats sick.. but how many of you people have seen grease more than 10 times... hmm wait.. maybe considering the/. audience that isn't such a good example:)
For years i've supported the amiga.. i've started with an a500 and slowly upgraded to a beefy a1200 tower.. Lately my attention turned to linux.. because the amiga market was kinda dead.. The first news about the new os was a nice change.. but now these latest changes make me a bit weary about the amiga situation.. How do amiga inc think these decisions will help them in building a strong market image.. they sway from one os to the other. Never making any real decisions.. Never fullfilling their promises. I was a big amiga fan.. and one of the few that stayed with the machine.. but these devellopments make me a bit tired... And i'm starting too loose faith in my once wonderfull machine..

the site is down atm because tgm is trying to stop his box from crashing under the load of a hell of a lot of slashdotters...
Try again in a few hours.. and things should be cleared up again!
the server is available for download on the uptimes page
