Don't forget...the USA has more people in prison than China. Your odds of going to prison in China are much lower than your chances for going to prison in the USA. Does that mean you actually do have more freedom in China if your chances of going to prison for doing something are so much lower? (as of 2001) China has 111 people in prison per 100,000 people, USA has 686 per 100,000. China has 1,428,126 people in prison, USA has 1,962,220. I'm thinking "freedom" is an extremely relative term.
Kinda OT but your post reminded me of something I tell my customers when working on their computers. (in the context of being in the USA) You gotta have a license to drive, a license to cut hair, and even a license to catch a fish, but any moron can have kids or get on the internet.
For those of you who haven't noticed yet, the way to get a crazy ass bill like this passed is to make the first draft lean insanely toward your side. Then as you make changes and cuts to please your opponents, what's left over is what you intended in the first place. You look like the good guy for "fixing" the bill while still getting exactly what you wanted. How many times have we seen people say things like "I'm so glad so-and-so grew a brain and fixed that crazy bill/policy/rule/whatever" and then later realized it was still a piece of crap when finished?
I know they're not RPG's but when I play counterstrike or team fortress classic, I use a female nick just because its funny to watch guys flip out that a girl killed them. It's got absolutely nothing to do with bending gender or anything else. And on tfc and cs, nobody's nicer if you're a girl. They're usually much more rude.
I believe the treaty of tripoli was one of only two items that ever recieved unanimous votes. But really, whether the founding fathers were christian nor not, I think the real point is that (in general) they knew their religion was personal. They were tired of governmental interference of peoples choice of religion. Regardless of their individual choice of belief, they wanted to make sure that govt never interfered. Its my personal belief that the senate tried to state that position again in the treaty of tripoli.
This country was NOT founded by primarily Christian forefathers. They were primarily Deist. Second, the founding fathers did not put "under God" in the pledge. It was added by a congressional Act in 1954.
Every person, of whatever religious denomination he may be, is a DEIST in the first article of his Creed. Deism, from the Latin word Deus, God, is the belief of a God, and this belief is the first article of every man's creed. --Thomas Paine
A movement or system of thought advocating natural religion, emphasizing morality, and in the 18th century denying the interference of the Creator with the laws of the universe. --Merriam Webster
Christians have been spreading the lie that the USA was founded in christianity.
If you tell one person a lie and they believe it, does that lie suddenly become truth? If you tell everyone a lie and everyone believes it, doesn't that lie suddenly become truth?
Is uniformity attainable? Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined, imprisoned; yet we have not advanced an inch towards uniformity. What has been the effect of coercion? To make one half the world fools, and the other half hypocrites. To support roguery and error all over the earth." --- Thomas Jefferson, from "Notes on Virginia
"Experience witnesseth that ecclesiastical establishments, instead of maintaining the purity and efficacy of religion, have had a contrary operation. During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What has been its fruits? More or less, in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and servility in the laity; in both, superstition, bigotry and persecution." --- James Madison, "A Memorial and Remonstrance", 1785
"As I understand the Christian religion, it was, and is, a revelation. But how has it happened that millions of fables, tales, legends, have been blended with both Jewish and Christian revelation that have made them the most bloody religion that ever existed?" --- John Adams, letter to F.A. Van der Kamp, Dec. 27, 1816
Considering that James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams were architects of the constitution, I find it troubling that anyone can believe that the USA was founded in christianity.
dismiss with prejudice means the issue is dropped or settled and can never be reopened. It's usually in the defendants best interests to have this.
dismiss without prejudice means they can come back and reopen the suit at any time assuming they have evidence or reason to.
The RIAA basically left an avenue open in case this 66 year old woman is actually violating copyright on her Apple with Kazaa. lol
I seem to remember people buying audio cd's and not being able to use them in certain players because of protection. I never thought I'd see a day when I couldn't play a simple audio cd in my computer. If you can't see the things you mentioned happening then look backwards a little. Anyone who has watched windows grow from 3.1 to its current stages knows that anything that can be done will be done unless the public shouts NO loud enough. Ever wonder why to find out anything you have to dig and dig? Read the news every day? Why we have "activists" who monitor things and report them? You can't protest something you don't know about which is why we don't get much information on these things.
imagine a crayfish thrown into boiling water
it will try to escape as fast as it can
but imagine this crayfish put into clear cold water
and imagine this water slowly heated up
this crayfish will stay motionless until he's cooked to death
the same thing happens to humanity

I saw a shirt that said something like...
If video games really affected kids, then we'd all be running around in a dark room with flashing lights and repetative music eating pills all night.
In independance day, all the F-18's in the big battle at the end were CGI. I'm ex-air force and used to work on F-15's and I remember that movie as being the first to use CGI to fool me.
I thought about this quite a bit and remember talking to my brother about this who owned a DJ business for around 20 years and has an ear that is absolutely amazing (he can hear the difference between different types of speaker cable). He corrected me on something. When cd's first came out, the quality difference between vinyl and cd was very noticable because the AD-DA converters weren't that good. With todays technology in AD-DA converters, cd's in a high quality cd player are about the same quality as vinyl. In the early days of cd's, the battle between which was better was much stronger because (with a good ear) you could actually hear quality loss in cd recordings. Analog instruments would have an obvious cutout point on the old cd players where on vinyl it would fade smoothly to silence.
Whether an album or a cd is better quality depends on a couple things. The main is the source of the music and the destination. Analog music such as classical, orchestra, or electric guitar has better quality on vinyl because you're transporting the sound from analog to analog, no loss (assuming you take care of the vinyl). Music made with digital instruments or samples sounds better on cd because of less noise. Digital to digital, no loss.
The debate springs up when you put classical on a cd or a synthisized piece on vinyl. Converting formats is where the change is.
Not to mention compression...
Technology for finding body fluids has advanced quite a bit in 15 years. It's possible today to find blood stains behind paint that aren't visible to the naked eye.
but how hard would it be to compare the code of the products in question to find matches? I'd think there was some way to find matching code in a decent amount of time. I also wonder if anyone hasn't done this already and I just missed it...
I didn't even consider the death penalty. Ouch. Thanks for the information. I'll be reviewing my views now.....
