A) Os/2 is still quite widely used in ATM's and banks and some other situations. It's apparently rock solid in some versions.
B) Linux has lasted what, well over 10 years at this point? Wasn't 2001 its 10th birthday? we're going on 15 years of this wonderful and powerful OS being public and widely used. Sorry Bill, it's gonna be tough to kill this one. Unlike you and IBM, there is no joint contract situation here.
C) I mean, lets be serious, Bill. I mean, let's be serious. I mean, let's use 'I mean, let's be serious' 20,000 times in one interview.

OO.o is certainly far from perfect, and is a little on the slow side (Duron 900/768mb here), but it's certainly an excellent replacement for the MS Office suite. Peopl need to look at the COSTS of running Linux, and not just the system itself when considering a switch from MS>Linux Distro. I find it well worth the hassle to have to re-open an app once in awhile due to crashing as compared to pirating some lousy, icky, crumby EULA slathered MS app.
Man, this sucks, I really love my NT4 servers. But I heard about something that might help. I dunno if you guys have heard of it, but there's this OS called 'Linux' or something that's supposed to be great for servers....
Just felt like I had to post this, as i'm damned glad to get it going...
For debian (quick instructions)
Use the boot and root image to boot the system, partition your drive, install the system, yada yada...tell it to try to setup autoboot. If that doesnt work, on the Debian site there are scripts ( http://cvs.debian.org/boot-floppies/powerpc-specia ls/miBoot/patch-floppy-image.pl )
to modify the install Boot floppy to target your freshly installed drive. This might be common knowledge, but I had to dig a big to figure it all out, and get it going. Anyway, that box is installing the addons now...phew, no need for a freakin 'livecd'..not that they're bad or anything. I want this to be a dedicated box without the minor hassles of a livecd.
I dunno if this will work for the LiveCD, but if you have an oldworld mac, and don't have a macos install/hfs partition, check this out:
http://www.mfdh.ca/~mfdh/apple/debian_on_oldworld_ mac.html
please don't/. it to death:) Perhaps someone has mirroring abilities?
my beige G3 desktop is JUUUST too old to run this. Fsck you, apple, and your oldworld/newworld bullshit. If only i could figure out how to get my debianPPC install to boot on it...

How exactly does this design work? Got linkage? I dunno if you're grasping the concept of his project, but I could just be an idiot.
Hahaha you asked 'Which OS?' on /. I guess you weren't looking for an unbiased opinion :P

It doesn't have a macos partition or 8.0+ install cd, and noone makes an 8.0+ book disk.

No need to worry..once the site gets /.ed to death, the picture (and the whole server) will have gone bye-bye :P
Imagine a beowulf cluster of these! ::rolls eyes:: :)
