OS X wasn't developed in only 4 years. OS X is largely based on NextStep, which if I remember correctly has been around longer than the linux kernel.

Well I don't know how it works exactly. I know there's a guy doing some appeal and I got an email saying that everyone's email was going to be searched for some certain keywords. And yes it is the dept. run email, not a personal address.

  12. Re:Meaningless question on If Mac OS X Came to x86, Would You Switch? · · Score: 1

You're right, it's never going to happen, and you know why? Apple is not a software company like MS is. It's primary goal is to sell hardware. This would not translate into more hardware sales, and it would be a failure.

  14. Re:Allofmp3.com on The Perfect Online Music Store? · · Score: 2, Insightful

It's a lot easier to download a song vs. downloading a whole movie. That's probably why the movie industry hasn't been hit as hard.

I'm totally agree that you need to study outside of the classroom. But you and I are also very rare. I didn't study IT, but mathematics, but the same thing happens. I don't know of anybody who took time to learn things that were not assigned in class. They want to go to school and have things handed to them on a silver platter.

  21. Re:Why lock in listeners? on NPR's Car Talk Dumping RealMedia · · Score: 2, Insightful

I think the answer to that is that Windows Media is on almost every computer (including my Mac) and is _much_ easier to get (as the article points out). Joe user is going to be much more happy with that because all he really wants is to learn about his car.

  25. PDAs are not for all types of people on Death of the PDA? · · Score: 2, Interesting

I had a PDA given to me and I found it quite useless. They are generally for business men and people with busy lives that need to keep track of all of their appointments, etc. I, for one, have no need for that. Now on the other hand computers and phones are of greater use to a broader population. I think that explains it.
