I agree with you somewhat but back in those days interoperability was not a real option. Fox was advertising cross platform ability, but M$ quickly killed that.
You cannot adequately predict the future. However, if you have the right to use the source then you cannot be orphaned in this way.
PLEASE BILL: Open the source to FoxPro 2.6. (It's worth a try to ask.)
We are supporting several really large legacy systems using FoxPro2.6a. Fox Software got sold to a company we all know and love. The cost of rewriting the systems to use the butcherd thing known as VFP is almost same as rewriting in another language except that we wouldn't be able to salvage any of the xBASE code. If you use open source software you cannot be orphaned in this manner.
By the way, on an offtopic question, does anyone know of any projects to develop an open source variant of the xBase Language? I would be interested in contributing 14 years of experience.
We don't have any such pending legislation (Yet (I hope))If the UCITA is passed in too many US states then I suspect that the US will experience a massive "Brain Drain" and corresponding "Exodus of Investment Capital" This might jolt legislators back to reality but probably not in time to prevent some nasty economic consequences (Proprietary Software Devlopers Excluded).
I question, however, is Canada safe from this legislation. US courts seem to have the ability to affect companies in Canada. The recent iCrave situation worries me. Many people on '/.' questioned how the US courts could make an effect in Canada but it seems to have happened. I haven't seen any information about how this was accomplished, but, I worry that some aspect of the UCITA could find it's way to MY COUNTRY.

Is it the Clients driving the parsing process or the Clients driving the parsing process??????
Install Windows 95,98,NT,2000 If it turns blue then the hardware is defective. File a class action suit against the manufacturer. The legal army of the M$ will somehow prove to the court that the OS could not possibly be to blame.
Once upon a time simple computers were useable and remarkably funcional given surprisingly limited resources. Then one day a man with great foresight invented a new design concept now known as BLOATWARE(TM). Now...
If we are all living in the Matrix then
./DOJ
we need someone to get root (somehow)
then
kill -9 MPAA
kill -9 DVD_CMA
kill -9 USPTO
# how do you cause Microsoft to fork into separate processes?
# O Yeah now i remember...

The short list of politicians and lawyers to make the one way trip into space will be announced shortly.

9 Gig on two circa 1994 laptops
If my drive space was that far ahead of the curve today
I could store my decrypted DVD library.
Better use it well before it gets shot down
It takes about a year for missiles to travel from mars.
Thank you
One thing that I don't understand:

I'm running 4.7 in a freshly installed Frozen Potatoe and I'm not having any problems with it. However, I've only been using it for three hours.
I think we're in trouble.

New Terminology:
FreeB: Free (as in beer)
FreeS: Free (as in speach)
FreeSB: Free (as in speach and beer) Pronounced something like Frisbe
Perhaps this should be moderated from Informative to Funny.
Can This be ported to the VIC 20?
Everyone knows a real browser should be:
1. 100+ MB
2. Part of the OS
3. Un Removable
Does this mean that if the source is "Out of Order" then the program will work anyway? Perhaps Windows will be stable on this thing.

Least likely events happen when you least need them.
