    Companies, and government institutions cannot just patch and go.

    Why not? A few years ago the customer information on my electric bill changed suddenly. The address was correct, but in the style of my previous address instead. My phone number jumped back 3 years and 2 addresses. A big company or utility would never do anything disastrous, would they?

    What, just like SCO were when they decided to distribute a Linux distro, including code that said "Please use me", and then get all of their revenue by suing people for doing so?

    Yes, well, when I included their code, unfortunately, I had it in there as "Please sue me".

    D'oh!

    In that light, I think their position is perfectly understandable.

    I think locking down SMTP servers and requiring verified & correct return addresses would go a long way toward curbing spam.

    A combination of white lists/black lists, and Baysian filtering...

    Stop yer bitchin', people, and implement the technologies that are already out there and work great.

    This doesn't sound like a general solution for J. Random Homeowner.

    It sounds alot like "Well, shoot! Quit yer bitchin' an just put in some tuned ports and performance cam! Hell, my grandmother could do that!"

    My question is (and this is REALLY going to piss off some people), does ADD/ADHD REALLY EXIST?

    I have ADD, no hyperactivity.
    I have tried the standard medications. None of them had a significant beneficial effect.
    I have learned many techniques for coping with ADD. I can rule out bad parenting and moral failure as a cause in my case.
    It is not laziness. I am distractable. I am interested in so many things. I tend to persue them all. This is NOT laziness.

    Oh, to answer your question then:
    Instead of the magnetic field changes being lateral, they are vertical. Don't worry, the substrate is deep enough. It's really just another way to write smaller. Instead of long skinny areas being charged front to back, or back to front, the areas are oriented up and down.

    Regarding the other response to this parent: Seeing a buffalo in a National Park, does not a wild buffalo make. Darwinism will eventually get rid of idiots who try to get close to large animals with herding and stampeding instincts. It's just a step away from trying to feed the bears or pet the lions. I just wish the animals would win more dammit!

    The Bush/Ashcroft administration will need all those addresses so that they can crack down on all those evil "hackers". You know, heavy licensing like in "True Names". And of course you need an address for the napalm packs in your cyber-decks, so the corporate overlords can blow up your apartment while your out for some noodles, like in one of those Gibson cyberpunk books (can someone help me out here, my books are in storage).

    Anyone know the RFC that covers those napalm packs? I don't want the cyber-deck I'm building to be out of spec.
