Yeah, for the average user there may be situations when it's not implemented in a way which fits you yet.

That it can be fixed doesn't help much, not much is stopping people from rewriting many of the parts they don't like in Windows or OS X either. Sure it may involve rewriting a complete finder like application on your own instead of just changing parts of the source-code, but it can still be done.

Anyway, far from all computer users is capable of writing such code and applications so that old somewhat stupid answer don't help much =P. The good thing with the open ones is that it's easier to fix things the way you want them thanks to available code and eventually more likely that everyone else will reap the benefits of said fix to.

  2. Why is there a browser in the music player? on iTunes On OS X Finally Has Competition · · Score: -1, Flamebait

Apple iPhones, iPod Touch and Microsoft Zune devices are not yet supported. Yeah, big contender.

So don't get a retarded proprietary music player*. Also I guess they never claim to be a manager for your music players, it's an application for playing music on your computer.
    * It's not their fault you don't think before you buy.

From the features page of their web page:

    Web Browser
Songbird includes an integrated web browser with features like bookmarking, tabbed browsing, and more.

Anyway, what I really would like to know is why the fuck they thought it was a good idea to put a browser in the application by using mozilla code?!!
To show the lyrics or what?

Kind of say enough about the developers than they thought that was a good idea because it was possible, un-focused bloatware.

I doubt I'll start to use it thanks to that "feature."

This thread will end up getting moderated flame-bait, but what would that common enemy be? Personally I think Windows is rather ok now, Windows 7 will probably be even better, who knows, maybe even better than snow leopard.

The only thing I see as an enemy is ideas which are pushed down my throat no matter what if I want them or not. I want to use my data and my applications in the way I feel like, not be forced to a single method just because someone else thought it was the best one. But that is true for all operating systems and no special "enemy."

I like many things in OS X and in applications for it because it makes sense and makes using the computer more comfortable, I don't like some other things because they don't let me do the things I want to do.

The huge amount of applications for Windows makes it rather likely that you can find one which fits your purpose, some for the window managers and such in the free unix-like oses.

Once upon a time I had a keyboard whose shift keys didn't work longer. It also happened that I ran whatever Linux dist and had a dir filled of files I wanted to remove.

Solution? User numeric keypad to type a * (which requires shift on the other part of the keyboard at least with a swedish keymap.)

Except I hit the wrong key so my * become a / instead. Not good.

Also when trying to install Solaris 8 on my Sun Ultra 30 it never worked to partition the harddrive or something like that, but dd if=/dev/zero of=diskname solved that one .. (don't remember if I used bs=1 or 512 and count=somehugenumber or not.)

Personally I would never use WPA for my computer but if I run wifi-lib test or whatever it's called on my DS and scan for networks around here I find 17 of which one is unencrypted and only 2 uses WPA. So the rest 15 is all WEP. So for most people this will indeed be a none issue, simple because they don't know better / understand the difference anyway.

The unencrypted seem to use some mac-filter though because my DS can't use it ;/

At least the configured access points are stored / DS and not / game. So if you set up network access in one wifi enabled game the settings will be the same when you switch game.

Also at least pictochat and single-cart multiplayer games uses wifi without any cartridge (but obviously don't use an access point.)

I have never thought it would be part of the cartridges, and I don't either. I don't know how homebrew using the wifi works, but I doubt they have written their own drivers, they just seem to use whatever is already configured.
