The growing Apple market share is a myth! Apple had 14% market share in the mid 80s, they have 3% now, how is that a growing piece of the market?
Sure some quarter they may have sold more systems than the last one or a year before or whatever, but it's not like more and more of the regular computer users get macs. Only old mac users and a very limited amount of geeks care, the rest only wants the same thing as everyone else.
Thought they probably do have a point for piracy for profit within organisations and people paying for their pirated stuff, not that those actions are at all related to pruvate persons copying for their own sake and for free.
I don't know if we have relaxed attitude to copyright laws, atleast not as country, the people does, of course, but don't people everywhere around the globe do?
But running a tracker isn't breaking any copyrights, is it? If anything it's helping others to do that but then how should a tracker keep track of what is copyrighted or not? It's like saying building guns or even cars and roads are crimes because you might kill someone (atleast that's the intention by building a gun in the first place so even more so!), and google can be used to find copyrighted stuff aswell.
Regarding actual copyright crimes one of the problems for the people who wanna prosecute are that we have (I don't know for sure if they have made a law around this problem yet, might have been done) a secrecy/integrety laws which prevents companies to share your personal data for anything except if it's a crime which can give more than 2 years in jail. Copyright crimes over here can give a maximum of 2 years so therefor the ISPs aren't allowed to share their costumer data, so if someone got proofs in the form of a screenshot/log and IP it's not enough to find out who actually commited the crime. And then there's not much one can do is it?
Piracy (with or without a ship) is a crime in Sweden, running a tracker isn't, atleast it doesn't seem so considering TPB are still up and running. Thought then it runs in multiple countries today.
Thought it's more or less a copy paste of Nethack atleast it should fit your bill nicely. Basic layout is similair as nethack, you have to draw your own maps, you can't just rush thru the levels, you can get more characters and swap people out in your team and so on during the game, so if 3 healers and 2 warriors is what you need at one lvl you can get that.
Graphics are very simple.
If only it was a MUD and playable over the Internet without friendcodes:)
I so want a basic 2D mud where I don't have to remember how to walk or read for directions all the time. Make it in JAVA or something similair aswell and I'm done =P
Subject says it all. Game for amiga on three discs, where you most often had to change disc 2 times for each fight or similair... A very good reason to get a second, or maybe even third external drive;D
Monkey Island II where on 11 discs but required less swapping.
I wonder what history says about this, I don't know which consoles does compare and have been in on similair pricepoints as Wii and 360, but PS3 and NeoGeo might be similair, thought the NeoGeo where even more expensive I think, the games much more so.
But we all know how well sales for NeoGeo went...
I guess Nintendo where old enough to know their game, and wanted a console with high profits so they didn't lose their money on it, and also smaller development costs. And all three points worked.
They didn't forgot, the 360 where supposed to have HD-DVD from the begining, I would more belive that they noticed that it would cost more and therefor raise the cost of the console and also because there where no clear winner the "oh and it can play HD-DVD-movies aswell!"-argument wasn't that strong.
So they opted for a lower price than the PS3 which so far seems to have worked well for them, don't you think?
But forcing people to buy the addon HD-DVD is rather lame, looks like shit and as expensive as a PS3. And people who has the DVD-version would feel it sucked.
Also I doubt it will happen since not that many have the HD-DVD one currently, so the first few games which started to use it would have crappy sales, and noone wants that, and without games being released for it noone will care to get the drive.
Of course games could be released on both DVD and HD-DVD, but that kindof stuck aswell.
Anyway of those two PS3 are the only console I would consider buying, thought that's not that likely to happen at all, and even less likely in close time to now;D
Not that intrested in Wii either since I have a cube which I haven't played much on at all and a DS.
Yeah but the Xbox360 HD-DVD speced where scraped and replaced with a DVD.
And I guess this is sort of why Microsoft started to support HD-DVD so much at all because having Bluray not seem like a definite winner which it more or less was and eventually fail would make the point that the PS3 came with a Bluray player which could also do HD-video less major. (Weird english:D)
Which is one of the reaons why I hope bluray wins: 1) More space. 2) HD-DVD are only considered because Microsoft wanted to hurt PS3 sales.
I have never said I'm unhappy with it not beeing released yet, only that I would like them to put more effort on the os and the macs. I want to see the entusiactic (for real) Steve presentate awesome innovation after awesome innovation with people cheering him on instead of just sitting there silently again.
I guess we'll see quite a few improvements under the hood to technical to mention on a webpage or keynote thought. such as more apps in x86-versions, improved opengl maybe,..
I've seen quicklook as a small viewer which the application in question needs to support, so nothing huge there, but yes, I guess it could be nice if it opens up much faster than the real application and use less resources.
You are right that in people may yell more than appropriate, on macrumors some people who said they had a "yellow screen" may be people who just didn't liked the color temperature / calibration of their screen as it where shipped, but with the default profile mine looked slightly more yellow at the bottom, but only very little and since it's a TN-panel colors shift a lot if you move your head and if I angle the screen "to much" backwards at the top it seems rather consistent so I don't know if it really has a problem, other machines probably have more of it, or people are just very picky. The noise in the headphones sorta suck since I know it's integrated sound and don't expect that much but it's still an expensive machine and you would always prefer if it where good =P
My friends gf (I don't know any more people with macs sort of) sent her Macbook for repair to some random (authorized) company here in Sweden and all I know is that she hadn't got it back after 3 weeks, but had later so say 4-5 weeks or so. And with my Macbook Pro I know people like the LG panels better but I where unlucky enough to get the Samsung, and more people says it has the yellowing problem, so just to be sure I would probably have wanted to exchange it for a machine with LG (or maybe switch the whole machine to 256MB vram modell, because I want the vram but didn't ordered that machine since it should be default and Apple are retarded to enforce us to get the highest end CPU and pay a lot for that and 40GB more HDD just because we don't want a flawed machine.)
Anyway, if I would have wanted to change anything the build time for this one where 2 weeks and shipping where 1.5 I belive, so a return would probably have taken 1.5 week there, 2 weeks to get a new one once they found out if it was ok to exchange it or not (within 14 days I guess it would be ok anyway) and then another 1.5 week to get it here. But waiting 5 weeks suck. (We get them straight from asia.)
I guess that may sorta be true, because atleast with more friends, parties, irl life and meeting people for real you're more likely to actually score. Internet dating suck, ask me =P
I still tend to stay here anyway because I'm so confident I won't get anything even if I go out either so why bother.
I wanted to reply to this thread saying that I would volunter to fill out the lost sex for people who feel that their boyfriend are using Internet to much, I've used it so fucking much that I would even offer to have sex for years without an Internet connection;D
She'd (yeah, no boys with boyfriends, atleast not atm) had to dump him first thought, I don't wanna mess up my joystick with someone else sticky stuff.
Imho Leopard doesn't offer that much new stuff. They said "top secret features", they gave us cinema ticket widget.. Sure they will say 300 new features or so, but how many of those are wallpapers, sounds, screensavers?
I don't see why and where Tiger are much ahead, and in any case it could be better and get more stuff, whatever that can be, I'm not that creative myself;D
Regarding quality control see thermal grease, moped sound, 1/3 yellow tint on macbook pro displays, noises on the headphone output of current macbook pro, broken GPUs in a few iMacs (sure that can happen, it probably happen with all graphics cards if you order one, but it's Apple and they could have checked and made sure the machine worked before shiping, I think they did before? Atleast if you do as I do live in Sweden having to return and wait for a new system takes a lot of time, it's much easier for people who got a local Apple store in the US.)
I don't know which macbook pros had it, I think it where both of the two first revisions but maybe not this one, I haven't seen any images for this one atleast, temperatures seem to differ a little but atleast mine are rather cool (54 degree idle @ 2000 rpm I think) (62 @ 4500 with fan control now thought because I run opera with 40-50 tabs and flash suck..)
My screen has some backlight bleeding mostly up at the webcam, suck as all TN-panels does, and might have some more yellowness/uneven backlightning at the bottom, atleast with the normal profile, bottom right corner seems a little darker aswell (and over the hinges), and I have random noices in my headphones when I have no music sometimes. Except that it's fine.
Personally I would so much prefer it if Apple put quality displays in all their machines even if they would cost a little more, macs are expensive anyway so better make them worth it / good.
All valid points.
..
Some people did have PCs back then thought.
I guess "a few years ago" where when Jobs wasn't there and they where more or less extinct
I don't know what market cap means, the value of the stocks? How much of that are due to iPods, iPhone and hype?
I'm to lazy to read it all, but:
The growing Apple market share is a myth! Apple had 14% market share in the mid 80s, they have 3% now, how is that a growing piece of the market?

Nowadays when all computers are connected to the net all you need to run is nethack!
Yeah because with OpenSolaris as is or BSD you have to pay so much tax for your open source products">!#%T&
But now I want the non-free software aswell so I bought a mac, even if it sucked. Atleast my printer and scanner will work aswell..
What bullshit, of course Microsoft will let their OS run free software.
Thought they probably do have a point for piracy for profit within organisations and people paying for their pirated stuff, not that those actions are at all related to pruvate persons copying for their own sake and for free.
What do you suggest? That google reads everyones e-mail and rapport anything suspecious?

It seems noone seemed to mind that it was patented earlier either considering all the draft equipment out there.
You are free to develop your own not covered by any patents, gl hf.
Well, that 360 with hd-dvd and live gold where as expensive (a little less, a little more, I don't know, I don't care.) where my point.
I can't figure out what game you mean, I don't know what you mean with "aircar".
Wing commander? Bratwurst? Rokketz?
Thought only the last one are decent looking, and neither are raytraced in realtime of course.
Or well, there are stunt car racing, but to call that "beautiful" are stretching it quite far, to tell the least =P
Check out Etrian Odyssey on Nintendo DS:
