Wow, such vitriol. Spoken like a true Macintosh Fanboy. Or Comic Book Guy. Do you own an iPod, or have you crammed it elsewhere?

I went to FutureShop to buy a new big-screen TV.

The sales weasle tried not once, but twice to push an extendo-warrAnty on me. I told 'em I'd walk out without the big purchase if he *mentioned* it again. "But sir, the extended warranty..." I walked out. He had the NERVE to ask me why I was walking out.

I got to the car, calmed down, and phone the manager. Told 'em the story. They shipped me the TV free 'o charge that evening by taking my credit card number over the phone.

The crazy thing was, this guy was trying to tell me that I NEEDED the warrAnty because the new TVs aren't as good as the old ones, and that replacement remotes could run me $50.

    That's commission sales for you.

FYI: in Canada, FutureShop is now owned by Best Buy, and BB sales staff aren't on commission. Even though they're the same company, you can play one off the other on their 10% discount off a competitor's price policy.

  5. Tom Jackobek isn't to blame... on Foiling 'Backdoor' Voicemail Spam? · · Score: 2, Informative

    Here's the deal on Tom...
I, too, was spammed by him, and called his campaign office to complain. They informed me that some kid (likely the same one sending me 48 minute rap and hate filled messages) hijacked an actual campaign they DID do ONCE and spammed random phone numbers across the city. The people involved in the original compaign, and Bell Canada were apparently "working together" to figure out who did this and how. I haven't received one in a month.

Informing telemarketers and spammers that you're going to "charge them a fee" for dealing with their phone calls or spam is the most rediculous suggestion I've ever heard. Who on earth actually thinks this works, aside from FM6? And thanks for the expert opinion on the legal system in Canada. I had a similar problem with harassing voicemail messages. Someone must have busted into Bell Canada's system, because despite the 3 minute maximum, I was receiving 48 minute "radio shows" of rap music interpersed with virtually unintelligible gangsta-style screaming, complete with threats to kill me if I told anyone about it. Franky, I don't think it was directed to me, but I called Bell Canada and the cops. Why the cops? Because Bell can't start an investigation without a police file: CRTC rule. Calling the operator or 611 for assistance on such matters is useless: Bell employees are clueless about this problem. Here's who you call in Toronto, anyway: Bell Canada Annoyance Call Bureau (416) 353-3840 While they opened an investigation, and so did the police (the number being used was actually disconnected a long time ago, further suggesting the hacker status). But the rants stopped shortly after filing the complaint, likely 'cos the "elite" 17 year old loser who hacked into the system got bored...
