  1. Re:Hide those Sharpies! on Finland Adopts New Copyright Legislation · · Score: 0

Hey, do you remember that crappy audio-cd copy protection, which installed a driver to your windows when you put disc into your drive and interfered ripper enough not getting 1:1 copy? And which could be avoided installing by keeping 'shift' down when putting audio disc in..

Well I guess that manouver is as good as 'circumventing copy protection', thus rendering your keyboard (and Windows too, as it allows this) as illegal device..

'All citizens, prepare to format all of your windows partitions and after that, please take your Windows installation discs and keyboard to the nearest recycling center and wait authorities to arrive. Have a nice day.'

  2. Way to go, USA! on Senate Takes Aim At P2P Providers · · Score: 0

You're about to make a world record of criminalizing and restricting your own citizens with laws which only purpose is make rich corporations even richer! How long will people stand this before running to barricades.. Bit by bit citizens rights are narrowed while restrictions are widened. Please, welcome your new form of government.. police state

  3. crazy world on Senate Unanimously Passes Anti-Camcorder Bill · · Score: 0

This is great example how things must go as bad as they can before they get any better. It's pretty normal because humans are boneheads and they rather stick with their old habits. Moving into something new is usually horrifying by default, so old behavior stays until it becomes too painful or impossible. Sad but true. In this case criminalizing camcording instead of creating viable solution is a) an old habit b) sign of corruption in lawmaking. All this because of stupid and greedy politicans. They don't have balls to change course as long as firms are shoveling $$ into their pockets.

Luckily i'm not living in US as i watch it sliding into police state..

oh come on! Why would you need to use public key encryption as you could use simple password encryption and hide passphrase (or hint of it) into filename/zip-packet

  6. Doom comes for SCO on Linus Corrects Darl on Copyright Law · · Score: 1

SCO has ran into quicksand and is pulling every string they can possibly get grip on. No matter if their stories are ridiculous or not, they don't have much to lose anymore. It's all gone already.. they just don't know it yet. Ya know, like dead man walking..

  7. Re:First long, thoughful post. on SCO Says IBM is Beating Up on Them · · Score: 1

I agree. SCO is kinda telling us they distributed something they really didn't know what it was and when it jumped out of the box and started chewing their leg, SCO weirdly decided they weren't responsible and someone else should pay them for their own stupidity.

A flat fact is that SCO knew before starting distributing, what kinda features linux had (or was coming later on). How odd is that they didn't bother to check if any of those advanced features infringe with anything of theirs? SCO knew very well IBM was contributing 'rival' code to linux codebase. It's not likely viable argument to tell judge that 'we didn't know what we were distributing as we were too lazy to check it in advance'.

  8. To prevent being sued on Xbox Linux Made Possible Without a Modchip · · Score: 3, Informative

..all xbox hackers should use freenet to publish their discoveries. That would give them total anonymity and good night sleep without getting burdened by possible lawsuits.

  9. someone wise once said.. on RIAA Not Done With Jesse Jordan · · Score: 1

'if you are strong, pretend weak. And if you are weak, pretend strong'.

RIAA is clearly falling to latter category considering its raging around and harassing nearly helpless (and innocent) individuals. This beast should be taken down.
